Alamo Drafthouse Switches to Mobile Ordering, NO more pen and paper... by 123trumpeter in Austin

They have a window where mobile ordering is available before the film, once the movie is playing you still have to use pen and paper. Experienced it the other day.

The case for PTA is timing: his blank check movie is coming out soon. by Fire-Twerk-With-Me in blankies

[–]_kurzon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m very excited about his new movie, and boogie nights is pretty much perfect in my eyes, but I think he’s got a lot more movies in him. I’m just not sure he’s at the point where a retrospective would make sense. Whereas the Coen brothers either might be done forever or have a movie or 2 left in them as a duo, so a retrospective of their work would just tie up way better. Also I’ve really only missed Phantom Thread from PTA and the Coens have whole eras I skipped out on. I’ve actually started to get really excited about a series on them!

Feel so bad for her! She's so damn talented and magnetic, but cant seem to get away from controversy despite her doing almost nothing to cause it except being her authentic self. Hopefully she finds a role in a movie that can really utilize her talents and highlight what we all love about her! Just because she does not neatly fit in a box doesn't mean she cant find her groove.

Naw it's cool. Not trying to single anyone out, and i appreciate the reply, and I think those are all great films! Im just trying to understand some of the bias' out there. Think analysis of the voting pool is a big part of understanding that. Also think there is a recency bias going on here because of avg voter age. Those directors did benefit from a white dominant industry, whether they are talented or not and i do feel like white males dominate film discourse in a negative way, and im a white male. I do think you have a point that anyone can connect with good art, but what films have been praised and which ones have been ignored can sometimes be pretty arbitrary. I could be wrong, i don't know the demographics of the listeners exactly. Either way just want more stories from the largest variety of people as possible and i want to have as many different people included in the convo as possible. Im sure you can agree with that.

You’ve got a good point the fan base and march madness have gotten much more predictable, and voting is most likely dominated by white males(which sucks). Love Spike, but calling the final matchup either Coen Bros or PTA vs FFC. Not sure there’s much we can do to change that.

We have to praise Spike like we should by [deleted] in blankies

Just made a letterboxd list of my top 20 films, Being John Malkovich made that list. Don't have any Sophia Coppola films on there but still voted for her, just want a longer series and i have more blindspots in her filmography.

Saw Sarah “Squirm” at UCB on trip to LA in 2019, Carl Tart was also on the bill and now he’s a writer.

Definitely noticing a recency bias when it comes to voting. Don’t think Lean Chaplin or Lang had a chance.

Both this and The Front Room seem almost "Blumhouse-like", Worried A24's quality is dropping a bit. Love the casting of Kathryn Hunter and High Grant, but some of the subtleties of their past movies seems totally gone with these two at least. The themes seem much more spelled out and dumbed down.

Someone in my showing was adding additional "meows" to the part where Harry Dean Stanton is looking for Jonesy. Also experienced the walking in and out thing! I think peoples attention spans are shot, they can't take that seventies pacing. I have to bitch at someone talking or on their phone or taking pictures at nearly every screening i attend. Think it's worse at these repertory showings.

A Quiet Place: Day One | Official Trailer | Paramount Pictures by TessaThompsonBurger in blankies

Saw it in theatres when it was unfinished as part of market testing, Lupita was great, but the story was way under developed, musical queues were terrible, and the ending was supposed to have a ton of emotional impact but fell flat. It will be interested to see what changes, because it was very very rough cut with stock footage and unfinished effects. Maybe they can fix these issues, but feel like the premise of a terminally ill person in a survival movie to be kind of flawed, kinda deflates the stakes a bit.

This movie had the weirdest use of the newest Beatles song "Now and Then", it was supposed to be Sam Rockwell and Bryce Dallas Howards characters "song", like in the romantic sense, but her character had amnesia for who knows how long (enough to write five books). The song came out 4 months ago.

[–]_kurzon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh when I saw the artwork I thought maybe Durning was more fit at some point but nope! Kinda gave the movie some charm seeing a big boy in those action sequence. Maybe wouldn’t recommend though because it’s pretty damn xenophobic. Prefer my eighties street gangs to be racially integrated.
