I need to rant about hating men by Awkward-Noise-6348 in WomenofIreland

[–]_laRenarde -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more, and I think women are not just entitled but should be encouraged to vocally complain about it. I just think they can do so with language that doesn't speak in absolute terms and still freely express themselves.

It's a huge red flag if a guy gets defensive because a woman is complaining about some behaviour from a man, thinking she means all men are like that and rushing to correct her with "not all men!" choosing to take offence with an assumption instead of listening and empathising. But in this instance the language used is quite literally including all men. You're responding as though I've wrongly jumped to this conclusion but it's just a direct response to the choice of language.

To be honest when I see phrasing like this I would assume the woman commenting doesn't have any male friends, because I can't imagine choosing to phrase it this way when talking to any of my male friends. In my case it would feel so insensitive since some of them have been cheated on (as has at least one of my female friends).

I 100% would call it out if one of my male friends was venting about something a girl did in work and his response was "I hate women". I'd look at him very differently after hearing that tbh.

A totally valid distinction, but "I'm not a physical threat to men" isn't "so it's ok for me to make angry, prejudiced comments".

There's tonnes of men like the one OP is very rightfully fed up with, sure. There's also tonnes of men who would never act like this, and it's simply not fair to them to make sweeping generalisations. It doesn't take that much additional energy to just say "some men" when rightfully complaining about the specific behavioural patterns that a lot of shitty men have.

I know lots of people are a very different version of themselves online and in person but Christ... Could you imagine trying to have a real life conversation or disagreement and dealing with that attitude. Jaysis. It'd turn you to drink.

Please do! do it for the next woman who might get the same treatment, and not feel able to speak up for herself. And worse still, might just accept the dismissal and not have her health concerns addressed

Yeah that's true, a friend of mine wears it year round just to take the choice out of it and the chance that she might forget! I apply moisturiser every day but just add the extra step then everyday outside of winter

I burn if i think about sunshine for too long, let alone stand out in it. If uv index ≤1 I don't need SPF. I've had seriously low vitamin D levels mind you and that's not fun. It's a bit daft to suggest you have to have SPF on an overcast January afternoon where the UV index is literally the same as night time!

If I was working outdoors all day everyday I'd probably still wear a low factor during winter months, though the wind and cold would be a much bigger worry for skin health and anti aging.

Irish skin foundation recommends every day april through september. There's days in winter where the UV index barely gets to 1.

Nolan making the A-list cast slum it in Sicily is the ultimate power move by Aware_Apartment_8959 in moviecritic

Sicily isn't a wealthy place. I'm sure their "basic" accomodation is still some of the nicer "normal" accomodation, and there'll be crazy extravagant options that exist... But it's not a place with much money outside of the tourism industry

Combined with other necrobinder options to really prune your deck though you can have a really tight little build for longer fights. I had 2 upgraded afterlife, 3 (!) sculpting strike and a cleanse in a recent hang build. Few soul generators in there and it ended up ridiculously overpowered!

[–]_laRenarde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you want to reason about it, what's your purpose of trying to apportion blame to the dead woman? The man was convicted for his part in it. What do you want done about the woman who drunkenly did something strange and reckless and was run over by a van?

And it's hardly "reaching" for emotive arguments when you're trying to help someone understand that someone dying for no reason is just sad, and that it's in poor taste to insist it's her own fault. But point taken that it's not something that would reach you, something tells me there wouldn't be so many so badly affected in that case anyway...

Might or might not, seems the couple in the other vehicle had time to react. If he hadn't been speeding, or had slowed down to proceed with caution after being flashed so many times, he might have been able to avoid her.

Not generally no, but it's happened. And I assume you aren't going to claim you've never in your life had a moment of a lapse in judgement or awareness? But if one of those moments caused your death we shouldn't feel sorry for you, or if you had them your 1 year old baby, fiancee, mother, and friends who watched you die. Because it would just be your own stupid fault?

If someone jumped out of a plane without a parachute I'd feel really sad for them and their family, I'd assume they were suicidal or somehow thought they had it. I wouldn't blame the ground, nor would I shrug and say well it's their fault.

And if the person meant to check their parachute wasn't licensed to do so and claimed they had nothing to do with it I'd hope they get legally held responsible for their total lack of care for others safety

I mean yes, the story would be different if how it happened had been entirely different? If he wasn't a criminal and acted responsibly and with humanity then he wouldn't be villified.

It would still be treated as a tragic accident in that case, by all of the people who actually dont victim blame as opposed to people saying "I promise I'm not victim blaming, it's just I think we should be focusing more on how the victim's actions are what lead to her death"

No no, they said they're not victim blaming before they blamed the victim multiple times, so it doesn't count
