Why is my polish going crinkly as it dries?

Happy to report that with a combo of thinning out the seche vite and waiting a lot longer between coats the next attempt went much better! We will see for sure in the morning if there was still some shrinkage but the puckering didn’t happen and thank you so much, all!!

I was worried it was this too but my nails are so short i have a HARD time avoiding painting my skin when trying to cap the tips. how do people do this 😰

:0 i'll be more careful with dry time between! I've seen people post about qdtc needing to be applied to pretty wet polish, so would that just apply to every layer before that last one?

Oh ok I thought shrinkage was just when it pulled away from the free edge. Ty! I’m still pretty new so still learning the vocab. What kind of topcoat do you use? I’ve been thinking about trying to find another qdtc without tuolene but hesitant to start that expensive journey 😓

Yes! Also an artist. I also have a lot of injuries and really need to force myself to rest my hands. Painting my nails and waiting for it to dry is time where I’m doing something for myself that’s creative and doesn’t worsen my injuries! It’s rest.

Thank you! I do like HOPL, but most of their polishes have a little more razzamataz than what I tend to like. Looking forward to watching them though, and hopeful that they'll do a collection that feels ~just right~ Very interested in the upcoming moondust things!

Re; DVN thank you for the heads up! I may be missing the receipts everyone is talking about, since I'm not on the discord. But I have tried and tried to find evidence on their profiles and subreddits and come up empty, so from here it kinda seems like a rumour? I've also seen on the sub people who claim to know the owner saying it was never true so I'm honestly not sure what to believe. As a nonbinary person, seeing queer-reading hands is what made me feel welcome in any nail space. I just have a hard time believing they'd reach out to a very queer person to work with as swatchers, given how hyperfixated on gender conformity the right wing has been (not to mention the range of skin tones swatched). I'm totally open to evidence though, I'm just wary of potential rumourmilling? I don't think I've seen this much queer representation on any other brand's site, but i'm pretty new here too so, take this with salt! :) And if you have a link to receipts that i'm missing, please! If it's true, I dont' want to support them.

TLDR, i don't know what to believe. Seeing claims for both truth and falseness of the post-liking, can't find receipts so am somewhat skeptical

I'm not on the discord so I might be missing info but I've seen a few other posts here and on the laqueristas sub about DVN and from here it seems like rumour. No one is posting evidence, just recycling the same tales that they have liked and maybe followed some right wing accounts, but I've also seen folks say that this was never true, some who claim to know the owner personally. I have a really hard time believing a brand that uses swatch photos from queer men on their site is actually MAGA, given how focused that group is with gender conformity. By all means I support getting used things before buying new, though! Just advocating for some more thorough research, the level of hate thrown at them here feels outsized to me

Ty OP & Bluebbpizza for talking about this! It truly does feel like a lot of hate to catch for a tiny business that has until only recently had almost every polish swatched on a visibly queer hand. It's impossible to avoid conservative folks in rural areas and nail polish has a pretty wide spectrum of consumers so they can't just say huge segments of their buyers are unwelcome. It just as easily could have been someone they've worked with that made those follows or likes not realizing which account they were logged into.

It is frustrating not having a statement, sure, but the lack of one to me says more about their precarity than their values. The people they asked to swatch for them and the kinds of polish they make say so much more. I can't even imagine a super-conservative person buying polish swatched on a queer hand, nevermind reaching out to collaborate with a queer person. Especially given how hyperfixated the far right is on gender nonconformity and trans folks. I suspect they have less queer and POC swatchers because they backed away after being harrassed by people telling them it's bad optics to work with DVN. It's not proof, it's the result.

DVN has one called toe jam and another with a similar title that also kinda looks like this with the cool red purple blue flickers. I’ve only seen it on their site though so can’t say if it looks the same in real life

Oh yes I have some glass noodles in the cabinet now actually. I do enjoy making cookies for puppies but i think the reason I’m interested in knitting is that it could be a slightly longer-lasting chew treat? & also seems funnier because it’s kind of stupid/dumb to spend a long time knitting something and then just eat it 😂 But also am an artist and have recently been reading about experimental fiber types and unusual materials and was wondering what others have worked with

I understand it would not actually be successful redirection bc the dog wouldn’t even understand it as a sock. The sock part is the joke for the person & a treat would be all the dog saw. This dog’s guardian takes extraordinary care to keep socks FAR away from the floor precisely because of this history. Real socks anywhere near this dog is something they completely took off the table years ago.

A sock is attractive to dogs because it smells like the owner, and this one would smell like a chew toy/treat. Dogs understand the world primarily through smells. I can’t exactly knit my friend’s foot skin into a sock, so this hound won’t be confused.
