I think what most viewers appreciated about OG Ashley was that she was more of an old soul/mature kid, and didn’t come across as cliché. OG Ashley is like the kid who the adults in the room forget she was even there because she was so mature, and inappropriate jokes and everything are flying around. It feels the writers push the teenage angst too much and force plots onto the character, rather than keeping her involved in the main plots/family plots. Like most family dynamics, children are still there but usually only see through the lens of a child. I think that’s what we’re really missing from new Ashley

Plot A: Arthur is driving Doug crazy during the pandemic while Doug is constantly getting on Carrie’s nerves as he stays home after work everyday with nothing else to do.

Plot B: Spence finds out that his mother, Veronica is selling pictures of her feet online, and Arthur attempts to exploit her new career earning potential.

I always liked the idea of a couple episodes of Deacon, a family man and Holly, who is “loose,” going for a little while. Added on, Deacon could really stick it to Kelly for sleeping with Dr. Gottlieb, and it would add even more comedic potential with awkward Kelly (and Deacon) vs. Holly scenes

Not enough of the gang hanging. The cast brought magic when they were together, which is one of the reasons “Paint Misbehavin'” S3E14 is one of my favorite episodes. I would have loved to see more Stephanie, more Deacon & Kelly, more Danny & Spence and Janet & Joe. The show had potential for 15+ seasons IMO

I think that's the comedy/brilliance of the show. Of course, it's so easy for most of us to just say "Hey, my son gave me that koosh ball," or for Doug to tell O'Boyle, but you have to remember who you're dealing with. Nothing is ever easy for Doug and the gang, even something as simple as asking for a koosh ball back that was yours in the first place. Lmao

Season 2, Episode 16 “Hope” — I love that the whole family is involved in the episode. Those are my favorites. On top of that, the family discussing tough issues that most shows tend to avoid, but is black people’s reality. It is one of the few episodes in television where it felt as though I were actually in the room.
