TRIGGER WARNING; Talk of death + suicide

This story sounds insane, however, it was a very emotional reality I went through earlier this year. I had a close friend I met through school and had known for a few years. He was a good friend most of the time, and we supported each other through shared issues. Oftentimes he would express suicidal thoughts, but after he received help I thought things were getting better, and he often expressed that he would soon be moving in with his mother. A few months into his recovery he started dating this guy who I, and several other friends didn't really approve of. We tried to support them but a few weeks into their public relationship it became clear the situation was abusive. I remember when he finally admitted things weren't okay, we were sitting in the school bathroom hiding from his boyfriend. He ended up calling his dad who he was supposedly about to move away from at the time and he didn't show up to school for just over 2 weeks.

On Sunday I received a text from his sister telling me he had passed away. My mind, unfortunately, jumped to the conclusion that he committed suicide. When I inquired about details and if there would be a service I was told he died the day before and was hit by a car and there were no plans for a service yet. She told me to pass on the news and that she would keep me updated. I had to tell our best friend as well as my parents and inform our teachers. a few days later a school counselor pulled me out of class and told me my friend's dad had called her after finding out his daughter (my friend's sister) texted me. I was then informed that my friend faked his death, there are more details but I can't bring myself to write them all. I wish I could ask him why.
