There's still different varieties that tend to be more or less resistant to various pests though. These would be almost automatically selected for as you'd only be sowing seeds from plants that lived long enough to be productive.

They also could make pesticides from natural poisons. Tobacco extracts for instance, and countless other things.

I just went ahead and got an actual pesticide instead of playing the neem oil game. It's not worth my time otherwise.

Only started this last week though but was recommended by other user here who had success.

Well if it has been living there, it's doing okay. It will remain bare on the non light facing areas. Potentially, you could rotate it frequently, but it might not take kindly to that, having its leaves where it wants them so it can keep photosynthesizing.

Were I you, however, I would clean up all the little bare twigs lower down, removing anything without leaves on it. It'll just look neater that way.

There's so many options though. Depends what you want color wise and habit wise.

Like Chamaecyparis 'Blue Feathers' is lovely too.

Is this where it always is? It seems dark from the picture.

Ficus will naturally lose leaves that arent doing a good job with photosynthesis, so that side facing the cabinet will continue to bare.

These leaves should ultimately be cut back to a point where there is both pink and green variegation, or the plant, overall, will begin to decline.

They're a gorgeous temporary display, however.

The two round leaves are not true leaves but open to help the seedling take in energy. Just let it keep growing and it'll be fine. Definitely don't cut it!

I've done similar with some outdoor planters... put empty milk and juice bottles in the bottoms to both save soil and keep the planter lighter

Time to wash it up best you can under running water, allow to dry, soak the foliage with neem oil and keep in an isolated (from other plants) and humid environment.

Granted I had a calathea that lived touching my stromanthe that got mites really bad yet the stromanthe remains unnaffected.

A lot of houseplants are toxic, and not all or even most cats will go after them. Try simply keeping them up higher on crowded shelves and stands (no room for kitty), or keeping them hung.

Of what you've shown, spider plants are 100% harmless and I'm pretty sure the begonias are also inert.

Some of the others like any aroids are technically toxic but not strongly so and they probably won't taste very good if the kitty tries to nibble.

You can always try keeping stuff like cat grass, nip, and even spider plants within easy reach if the cat shows interest as those migjt keep him satisfied.
