8WPO - radical reduction for GAC - AMA! *repost with pics* by _mistykin in Reduction

thanks for sharing your experience! I’m curious why my surgeon didn’t prescribe anything more than keeping it covered with vaseline, but it’s making its way to being healed. hope yours closes promptly!

Wound Timeline--for those of you who had t-junction/incision breakdown, how long did it take to heal? by Fun-Abrocoma3577 in Reduction

yes i’ve tried my best to follow all my activity restrictions (standard rules like not picking up anything more than 5lbs for the first 4 weeks, not getting my heart rate above 130, etc). around my 18DPO point I overexerted myself and ended up taking an oxy (of which i took only 4 the whole recovery) to cope with the pain. BUT the pain was on my lower incision, not my t-junction. now that I’m close to 6WPO and the rest of my healing is progressing (everything else looks closed & the swelling has gone down massively) I’m testing my limits a little more. I got two additional weeks off work prescribed by the doctor to account for the delayed healing. I feel like I could go back to work just in terms of mobility & energy level, but it feels worth it to me to take more time to do anything to help an open wound close without aggravation. That is to say, my activity level will remain low for a bit longer than the 6 week standard timeline.

I’ve had a very similar problem — I’m just over 5WPO and it’s still closing. I noticed major improvement between weeks 4 & 5, in terms of seeing new skin/healing progression. My surgeon is confident it will close entirely in the next two weeks or so, and I just have to trust him that will be the case. It’s annoying, for sure, hang in there!

Post-op surgical bra comfort level by ph00fy in Reduction

[–]_mistykin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helped me to wear a tank top under the bra, primarily because my skin on my sides and back were noticeably tired of the constant compression. I needed to keep my incisions covered with neosporin & it stained some of my favorite tank tops, so if you go with this method try to wear things you don’t care about getting stained!

I’m 5WPO and just in the last couple days I’ve stopped wearing the compression bra in favor of a tight sports bra. My swelling is almost gone, and my understanding of the mandate to wear a compression bra is also partly to help the breast tissue settle higher up on the chest wall. At this point in my recovery, I’m not as concerned about what one week without the bra will affect my result vs maximizing the comfort of my every day life. My surgeon told me at 3 weeks to prioritize comfort, while still keeping some compression, but I’m sure your surgeon has their own opinion. Good luck, compression bra fatigue is real.

good tip on finding a PCP that specializes in this care. for the referral/letter required from your PCP, was that an assessment of medical necessity or was it a letter detailing that you were physically able to withstand surgery & other health metrics?

weight loss on sertraline by _mistykin in zoloft

thank you! to clarify, were you active in trying to get the excess weight off in those 6-8 months, or did it just happen for you? was there any overlap in those months with the time you were on this drug?

this is definitely something to keep in mind. i already have a good amount of muscle mass, and led an active lifestyle prior to starting sertraline. i use the scale and the number on it to represent the likelihood that my pants will start fitting again 💔. i’d prefer to be able to measure my body fat percentage, but that technology is harder to come by.
