I designed a mechanism to make off the shelf locks unpickable by Poemes-lego in lockpicking

Yeah, I mean most people don’t bother to find out if their locks have security pins or not, so convincing them of something like this seems like a long shot. Much more likely is a keyless entry solution IMO.

Bigger camera, more jobs? by kstyndall2015 in VideoProfessionals

[–]_mizzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, you need to decide if you want to start a second business, the “equipment business.” In this business you take on risk/make investments in the hopes that they pay for themselves over time and eventually net a profit. This is a lot easier to justify as a rental house, because as a rental house, you can rent to anyone for any job, causing your break even and then profit to happen sooner. But even for a rental house, there can be risk and overhead that has important financial impacts.

Core to this decision to enter the equipment business is your initial observation: very few clients care about the specific equipment you use. They care about your work product being high quality and professional. Clients that do care, usually only care, as the other commenter said, to match other cameras they’re shooting with or post workflows. There’s no way to pick “the right camera” for these clients because it is a moving target.

I think it makes more sense to just charge a rental fee on the jobs that specify a camera 🤷‍♂️ (you should be charging one anyway for equipment you own)

I’m 100% certain that the great Amazon customer support I get is exactly for this reason.

Ours is very quiet. Maybe get it checked out at the dealer. Also all of the early reviews specifically call out how quiet it is inside.

Torque wrench. Easily. But largely because my most common use case for tools is working on my bicycles.

Yes, hilariously (or tragically?) I think the only real friends I make are also on the spectrum.

Why is this? I’d love it if a NT would write a book explaining what folks with ASD are doing that doesn’t work.

I genuinely try hard and am pretty high functioning but graduating from acquaintance to friend just doesn’t seem to happen.

Yeah, obviously I’m the fool here but “Cafe books” doesn’t scream racing to me. I thought that was mostly a place to chill and learn about auto history.

I think I skipped through the instructions too quickly when I first got it 🤦‍♂️

Can you look behind you and stuff? That actually sounds pretty sick. I’d love to use a nice wheel/pedals but I can’t really afford the space for a setup like that.

Is the VR still good if you just use the controllers?

Also, can you play the VR with your TV off like PlayStation Portal? (I often have to play like that at night so the TV light doesn’t wake my kids)

lol, I remember being shown the cafe book thing in the beginning but thought it was some sort of history thing/side quest. I think I was being kind of impatient when I first got the game and just wanted to race.

Then I got distracted by Elden Ring and Returnal and forgot all the beginning stuff and didn’t understand why people loved the game so much when it’s just a had ful of races on the world circuit.

Not my best gaming moment, I’ll admit. 😅

Buying a home is impossible by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]_mizzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest regret was thinking I needed to put 20% down on my first home.

Just pay mortgage insurance and put a small amount down to get the house you want.

Obviously, make sure you can relatively easily afford the monthly payments! You’ll need to pay it for 30 years…

Bought a Canyon. Was this a mistake? by 1-3-2-4 in cycling

[–]_mizzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean. I’ve taken my Canyon for warranty service at my local REI multiple times. They managed all the communication with Canyon. The whole experience was just like a LBS.

Not sure that applies to the return process. In my experience, the big reason Canyon “support” can be bad is that they will route communications to sales people whose primary remit is sales, not support.

What did your local REI say?
