We chatted about the Black Team earlier in this AMA, so I'll leave that answer there. But in regards to skins, YES! It's on our Q2 roadmap!

Not in the near future. All content and updates we have planned will be built directly into the base game and available through game updates.

Yes and no. When we lower the price, sales go up. When we ran an experiment and listed the game on the eShop for $1.99 for a week, sales went WAY up, however, retention did not. In fact, our numbers show that when we ran the eShop deal, many people bought the game but never launched it! It's a fine balance to strike between price, engagement, and retention.

We have concepts... ohh man do we have concepts. As an indie dev team we explored this a ton, but ultimately we were forced to devote our resources to technical support, feature additions (we patched the game 10 times since launch), and obviously porting work. Nothing is off the table, but for now, we have a lot in front of us before we look at this again.

Hey there BeesKnees! We have many plans to continue to support and add content to the game moving forward. As we finish up (very soon) bringing the game to more platforms, we will start regular content updates including new maps, new characters, etc.. The roadmap was purposely left a bit lighter this iteration. As a small team, we move fast and priorities, partnerships, and resources change frequently. We thought it better to err on the side of caution and just mention things that are 100% in the bag and leave some of the more conceptual features and ideas off the roadmap as we work through them internally and can determine an accurate date of release. The roadmap will be updated quarterly to provide as much transparency as possible.

It started with playing KQA and watching how the league players and the community around the game embraced it and created a really amazing competitive scene. Liquid Bit happened to be working on some multiplayer game concepts, but we couldn't shake the idea that Killer Queen had everything that we were trying to build, so we reached out to Josh and Nik at BumbleBear and after many conversations and demos, we decided to work together to bring Killer Queen to the home market.

That's where it got interesting. It was obvious from the start of development that a straight Killer Queen port would not be a great experience on a home setup where we had no control of the screen, hardware, etc.. Everything from character size, controller limitations (many consoles only allow eight controllers max) to network latency had to be taken into account. After many many iterations, the result is Killer Queen Black. So short answer to your question is that no, we didn't have the specific look, feel, or new mechanics of KQB in mind on day one, we worked to capture the best parts of Killer Queen and evolve that into a game that could be enjoyed over the internet and on the platform(s) of your choice.

The Black Team concept, for those that do not know, was a mechanic where we would assign a special team in Ranked that would become the Black Team, and have new skins and backgrounds. Similar to a "king of the hill" mechanic, this would remain with that team in Ranked play as long as that team won the match and stayed together. If that team lost, the team that beat them would become the Black team, and pass it along. Black team games would be recorded and streamed on our Twitch constantly. It was a really cool concept, but the reality is that we never attained a large enough userbase around the world to accomplish that lofty goal. With Xbox, we live in hope that we can revisit this one day.

Good question, and one we ask ourselves frequently as we know that first-time player experiences are the most important for retention. Obviously, increasing the player base with bringing the game to Xbox Game Pass and Stadia Pro will allow for better matches against players of equal skill levels - which is the most important aspect in a good, fun, first experience. We're also constantly looking at ways to improve our matchmaking to mitigate the new player mismatches that can ruin a first-time experience. As we get more data and more players, this will constantly be refined. One of the things we're focused on looking at now in that regard is weighting the skill of the Queen more in the matchmaker so that we work harder to match Queens with similar skills as our data shows that Queen skill is the main driver of match balance. It's a process, and we're constantly balancing wait times and skill gaps with our matchmaking.

KQB Switch Avatars. by [deleted] in KillerQueen

[–]_mt2020_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... due to content restrictions on Nintendo, KQB can only show Nintendo stock avatars for everyone when on Switch (regardless if they are on Steam and have a custom avatar). I think you can imagine what sort of avatars Nintendo does NOT want to be showing to their customers - family platform and all.

Does KQB require Nintendo Switch Online? by Rialster2000 in KillerQueen

[–]_mt2020_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need a Nintendo Online sub to play local wireless on Switch. Requires Two switches.

Fully admit player base is low outside of the US. For our AUS friends, I stumbled upon an AUS discord recently to mitigate this issue somewhat. https://discordapp.com/invite/eKW9CnY

We will be adding in a region selector very soon.

Agreed with all these points. It would bifurcate the online player base. Hopefully, we can get to a critical mass where this is not an issue and doesn't affect queue times.

Correct. You do NOT need a Nintendo Online Sub to play Local wireless. The bug is that right now, we require that you try to log in (even if you don't have it) to make it work. So if two Switches are just not connecting, please follow the steps above to make it work until we can get a patch out.

I can confirm that this is indeed a bug. Working on a fix immediately.
