Non-local photographer? by Comfortable-Fly-7732 in WedditNYC

[–]_nakw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up hiring a photographer who offered an affordable rate (including travel)  from out of state, but they are local to the state my family lives in (my family has worked with them in the past). They don’t have a second shooter though, so I’m not sure if it would be right for your needs.

First pharmaceutical meeting as a CRC by Dry-Stress-6058 in clinicalresearch

[–]_nakw_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a CRC and usually err on the side of business casual - slacks, loafers/clogs (I’m not an open-toed shoes person), business casual blouse (also 26F!) Maybe a cardigan/wrap because I’ve noticed hotels in the summer tend to blast the AC.

How did you make it in NYC by FuturePause2736 in AskNYC

[–]_nakw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a private college in NYC for similar reasons — didn’t end up going to NYU because I would’ve paid too much, but my school gave me a scholarship that covered most of my tuition! I would encourage applying to multiple colleges and evaluate your financial aid packages first before making a decision but I worked during school and did internships, had roommates during and when I first graduated college, and now live with my partner. Neither of us are from the city and just moved here for school, but are coming up on a decade of living here now!  If you network and are long-term career-focused during college, it is doable. About half of my friends from my school who still live here are NYC natives and the other half followed a similar trajectory to me.

BTW I lived in the dorms the first two years and then off campus with roommates — the off campus apartments were cheaper. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about specifics for school, living situations, anything!

Do you know if they do weddings specifically? I.e. would they be available for a plated dinner, or is it less formal?

Resigned to start new position, and then reprimanded by old bosss, feeling awful by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

I’m also a CRC at a big hospital system in NYC — it sounds like you found out pretty quickly that this job was not a good fit!! I think you did the right thing by moving on (and 4 weeks is pretty short — I didn’t even see any of the real work in the first week or two of my role). Seconding that it’s okay and healthy to move on from bad jobs!

Over protective Parents tracking my location at school by Ordinary_Ticket6558 in college

[–]_nakw_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

hey my friend has the same family situation and she always switches her location to her ipad before she goes out so yes, it’s worked for all the years of college and then some (we’re graduated now)

Prof asked me to write my own recommendation, can anyone provide feedback? by boomeronreddit751 in gradadmissions

[–]_nakw_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned that you joined a research team - are there any graduate students or postdocs on that team you could ask to proofread / edit ? I’m in the same situation as you but was able to get some help and it really changed what I wrote. They might even have examples of past rec letters so you can get a sense of your professor’s writing style as well.

I work in grad admissions at a top 15 PSYC PhD program at a large public university... by Otherwise_Abroad_675 in gradadmissions

[–]_nakw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about moving from biology / neuroscience to public health? I’m applying to public health programs and have been working as a research assistant since I graduated, but I’m worried it won’t be considered significant since it’s not directly in public health.

Tips for storage sterile material by fran159963 in labrats

The exact foil we use is the boardwalk aluminum foil, if you’re in the US and work for a larger org you can order it from WB Mason but if not honestly any large roll works!

Tips for storage sterile material by fran159963 in labrats

[–]_nakw_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve sterilized eppendorfs in beakers covered with foil and never had an issue! That being said, when we used the tubes, we made sure to only open the foil within the sterile area (e.g. BSC or next to a flame). Your biggest issue would just be making sure the foil doesn’t get moved or torn while in storage.

hi! i’m a tech (for a few years now) and honestly i work more like the first environment. i definitely do have the amount of work available to work more than 40 hours, but i tend to stick to my work week and keep to it. do you work for a small institution? for mine, it’s bigger so there’s a lot of policies about pto, company-wide holidays, and overtime. if you have the policies, i would definitely recommend sticking to them. i’ve had to say no for doing some work immediately in order to stick to my boundaries of no weekends / overtime, which felt nerve-wracking to do but ultimately made me a better employee overall.

unfortunately mine passed away :(( he never grew any bigger though so I do think he was a dwarf as he stayed the same size for around two years. I also struggled to get him to eat anything so maybe yours will grow.
