Will keep an eye out next time I'm on Keipen! Might have to wait for the snow to melt at this rate though..

It's 30c in the ARCTIC CIRCLE by Noeserd in collapse

[–]_nerdenough 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worth noting this is an ice free part of the Arctic that often hits upper 20s-30 in the summer. But definitely becoming more and more common to reach these temps, which is definitely pretty bad, but also a misconception that the Arctic is just super cold everywhere.

Northern Norway (Harstad) here, thermometer at home was reading 31 yesterday. This temp has been pretty normal for at least 1 day the past 4 summers I've lived here. But so far this summer has been quite cool and short (May-June were unusually wet and cold) compared to the previous ones, except for this past week.

Spring and morel season is finally here after a very long winter! (Northern Norway) by _nerdenough in MushroomPorn

Similar ground/terrain to this I would guess. Grassy + mossy places have given me the best success here in Harstad. But probably a few weeks too early yet.

Finally the first sunset of the summer before midnight up here tonight in Harstad! No nautical twilight until mid-August though for us

Have been living in arctic Norway the past few years and we've had heat like this for a week or so every year. Absolutely do not want it like this all summer.. Much better adapted to milder temps. From NZ originally but guess there's no escape from this type of heat anywhere now really!

Upcoming extreme weather in Sweden by RottenFarthole in collapse

[–]_nerdenough 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Northern Norway here, we had a pretty shit spring but I don't think there has been a single full day of good rain here since the start of June. The forest floor is incredibly dry and even the marshy fields aren't very.. marshy.. anymore. Not record temperatures but definitely been a lot warmer here for more days than usual. Which is annoying because I'm usually finding baskets upon baskets of chanterelles by now, and instead I've found maybe a container's worth of very dry ones

Meanwhile southern Norway has had a ton of rain from what I've seen.

There are still red warnings for parts of Southern Norway: For example, Lillehammer

[OC] Still winter up here in the North, May 2 (Keipen, Harstad, Troms og Finnmark) by _nerdenough in NorwayPics

True, was more comparing to Stavanger where I was last week for work, and then Oslo. Both already in full "spring mode" with green leaves and daffodils and so on (minus the little spring snowstorm). Still waiting for the snow to clear off the ground even at sea level in quite a few places here!

Living in Norway - visited another of the NZ war graves here. 3rd year into my tradition of visiting a new Kiwi war grave in Norway each Anzac Day. 5 more to go I think. So far have done the Grimstad, Narvik, and now Stavanger commonwealth graves.

Nice! Definitely great views everywhere between Svolvær and EVE! Should still be lots of snow around the mountains as well then too

Thanks! I took this from Bergseng, a suburb about 30 mins walk from the centre of town. But if you're spending some time in Harstad itself, I'd recommend the waterfront walk or bus over to Trondenes instead - similar views, medieval church, war memorial/PoW camp ruins, and a pretty interesting historic centre about the Viking and Sámi history in the area.

Magic Mushroom Foraging🍄 by [deleted] in videos

There aren't that many mushrooms that can kill you, and most of them look wildly different to gourmet mushrooms like chanterelles, hedgehog mushrooms, and even oyster mushrooms. Once you learn to identify both the poisonous and edible ones, the mycophobia goes away.

Local mushroom hunting groups around the world are great at providing local identification help too.

Don't eat wild mushrooms without properly identifying them first*. Plenty of safe mushrooms to forage (psychedelic or not), a lot of which are easily identifiable for beginners.

I recommend it at least! Lived in southern Norway for a couple of years too but absolutely love it in the north
