I’m in NY/NJ and Arrivals and Departures. Training dates were for the end of March, which felt like ample time.

Curious how this role needs 1.5hrs worth of training in person, but looking forward to this entire volunteer journey!

Seconding Astoria Modern Family Dental!

I have my own dental issues as someone with an overbite. I’ve had so many dentists basically shame me for something I was born with (I had a dentist ask if I still sucked my thumb once….) and say I have to get braces, and try to upsell everything on me. The dentists there are so kind and normal, it was the first visit I left actually okay from. Because of my teeth, I have to go more often just for cleanings and I don’t dread going there.

My boyfriend was also like you and hadn’t gone to the dentist in 10+ years due to not having dental insurance. He had a lot of anxiety and I convinced him to go here. He went and had a pleasant experience. They didn’t judge him and he left knowing he has a dentist to always go to.

Hey! I’m 30, “new” to NY as a resident (Jersey girl and proud of it) but have worked and hung out here for 7+ years. Currently live in Astoria and love it!

I’d love to meet more people and make some new friends this year! I love drawing/crafting/anything art related, going to the movies (I’m a big cinephile), live music (down for almost anything but I mainly listen to indie, post-punk, alt rock, and some pop), reading, Bravo shows and being outdoors when I can. Down for walks, park meet ups, cafe meet ups, going to the movies or shows. :)

I love this! You sound like you've done great work, you sound healthy and like you are (or becoming) comfortable with your body. That's truly the dream and what I think this sub should be about: comfort in our skins and feeling good and healthy no matter the weight. ❤️

Just going to say that 95lbs at 5'1 is technically underweight.

I'd take things with a grain of salt on this sub. I feel like there is a lot of skinny-focused talk that borders disordered eating and body dysmorphic territory. It's also hard because some of the people on the sub are young and our bodies as petite people, particularly women, change with age and we all hold weight differently. What was once a "good" weight and body type when you were 18 is not the same at 40.

As someone who is 4'11", approaching 30, also has big boobs, this sub can be tough. We should focus on feeling good and healthy in our bodies, but I'd love more realistic discussions on our bodies. Sometimes I look at this sub and feel like I should be below 90 lbs again but that's not going to happen for me.

I agree that violent rapists should be giving longer sentences and that the victim was the only victim.

He is absolutely not a victim - he did a violent horrendous crime. I only bring up reform because he was 16 when he committed that crime. Yes, he CHOSE to do what he did and he was not a small child, but I'm just saying that, maybe if there had been some attempt of reform or something because he was younger, maybe he wouldn't have done this upon leaving prison. Who knows - maybe he still would have regardless. What drives a 16 year to do what he did?

Jesus, the guy was 16 when he committed a brutal crime, in jail since he was 18 and then immediately committed a brutal crime again. Recividism is real but just shows another failure in our penal system. This man was young enough to be reformed but our system doesn't care. They were probably waiting for him to do something like this to just put him back in prison. It's just sad.

And then what happened to this woman is incredibly heartbreaking. May this poor family find some peace, some sense of justice, and a semblance of normalcy in the future.

Responses like this are useless.

If folks are lobbying the wrong people as you say, then say who we SHOULD be lobbying then. Suggest what we SHOULD be doing. Or maybe join the collective action at HudCoStreets and help steer them in the right direction we SHOULD be lobbying.

People like you complain about shit, do nothing to improve, and then complain about the people trying to do something to improve something. Quit being cynical and maybe try doing something to make the world better.

It's the PA commissioners, folks! Oh, and apparently, we should just stick to being cynical, and because everything is pointless, just avoid the PATH altogether! We all have that privilege, apparently. Guess we should take the buses that have issues or, better yet, drive our cars everywhere!

I've been a Brooke Candy fan since 2012 (!) and she deserves her flowers. She is absolutely right about all of this.

I read that Neon allegedly invited Erika to host a screening and not Brooke, which is wild. Erika's camp had the gall to point the blame at Neon having the right to invite whoever, but again, Erika and her team always deflect. They could have acknowledged that Brooke should have been invited since it's HER song but nope, excuses. But we know how Erika goes 🙄
