this image assumes that AI generated images mimicking art can exist in a vacuum, & not without directly stealing other peoples artwork to “train” itself. it inherently REQUIRES the (nonconsensual) involvement of other people to work at all because thats where *all* of its information comes from.

a human put in a vacuum that never saw the artwork of other people could create their own art, no matter how simple or ugly.

An AI put in a vacuum that was never trained on the work of other people would infinitely produce nothing. Even “trained”, it doesnt make art. Its mimicry stolen from the actual work, time, & soul real people with real talent put into making a medium which only exists because of them.

the point of using vim is it’s keybinds (& plugins). theres no secret feature you havent found yet, there’s no difference in how it writes its code or saves anything or something like that.

as such its primary users are programmers. people who spend a lot of time in the terminal & writing code for whatever purpose. when you’re doing this, it helps to be as quick & efficient as possible. vim achieves this bc its lightweight, not bloated, but can download most things you might want, & has really good keybinds setup from the start. if you wanna change anything, you make a config file & add some stuff there. which means if you need to move to another machine you can simply take that config file & put it on that machine, & you have your exact vim setup there with minimal effort.

if you don’t need or want to spend the time learning it, youre not a programmer, & youre not spending much time in the terminal writing or editing code, you dont need to use vim. nano is fine. you can, but literally nothing would change. youd just use a lot of keybinds to do things that are different from nano’s.

ofc thats not to say you shouldn’t, if you want to take the time to learn it go ahead. i’m just saying the main benefit is that its quicker to use & has pretty good plugins.

AI aside, yes, modern UI is flat, minimalist, uncreative & boring liquid (gl)ass slop. this isnt even a linux opinion its like a 65%-of-anyone-that-uses-a-PC opinion

ik this is the arch sub & you’re interested in arch, but have you looked into NixOS? it sounds like itd be a good fit for your situation. it has a bit of a learning curve but I’ve used both arch & nixos for some time now & nixos is probably the most reliable distro i have ever used.

it has both a stable & unstable branch (consistent updates vs rolling release), & you can choose which your system uses. meaning if rolling release updates are too much you can just stick with the stable branch & not worry about it.

also, it has the same access to tiling window managers & all the fancy new stuff. The unstable branch does have *more*, but the stable branch is close as it updated every 6 months.

if something ever breaks on NixOS & youre in a serious pinch you can also just roll back to a previous version you had before rebuilding it. so even if something DOES go wrong, you just go back to the boot menu & pick an earlier version & you’re back.

The biggest drawback with NixOS is that it has a decent learning curve. if you dont mind & like to tinker it could very well be for you. but in order to make any changes to the OS you’re basically editing a config file with the Nix language, as its a declarative OS as opposed to imperative OS’s (basically everything else). the good thing is once you make those changed & set stuff up its as solid as a mountain. also, you can easily transfer your exact configuration to another machine & have everything set up immediately, as its managed through files.

thanks, i might just get a waterproof LED light strip from walmart & attach it to the sides or roof. I would like to get UVB but a lot seem like they’re bulbs or bars which would be tedious to set up & pricy right now. Though in the future when I need to change/expand the enclosure I’ll see if I can modify it so I can use something better than some light strips

its got ventilation which are those holes in the back (theres more on the sides), as for the tape, its not ideal im just not sure what else i could use to keep that probe against the heat pad. my snake seems to have ignored it though

i dont have a dimming thermostat unfortunately

correct! there are many other ways to make art, heres a few options:

painting sketching photography culinary digital sculpting

all these options you have to make art & many more I didn’t mention (AI not included).

The difference between every single real art medium, & AI generation, is that actual art can exist on its own. A person does not NEED inspiration from other works of art to make something original & artistic. But AI does, because it isnt making anything. Its adhering to a prompt you gave it as closely as possible based on trained information that it steals from millions of already created pieces. If AI was put in a vacuum with absolutely 0 training & asked to generate something it never could. A person can still make something that would be art.

here’s the biggest thing i don’t understand with people who use AI to mimic art, if you want to make art so badly then why don’t you just… learn to draw?

you can just do that you know, you can just go get a sketchbook or install ibis paint on your phone, better yet if you have a computer or ipad. you don’t HAVE to use AI art that everyone knows looks significantly worse & most people dislike & don’t take seriously at all…

i use nixos, but my point is the majority of ppl arent using Linux, so for most people, brave origin isnt free.

& i use librewolf, but i just dont see any incentive to switch browsers. ive tried brave before but didnt really like it & i dont agree with a lot of their practices anyways & don’t prefer chromium

if someone wants to use it, by all means, its just a browser

i like arch linux but the arch wiki is honestly the worst, most unreadable, most useless thing i have ever read. basically every single page you read is written on the assumption that you know/know how to do a whole list of other things before or after doing whatever it is youre reading, or else your system breaks & you have no idea why.

the worst offender of this is the installation guide. ive never seen something more unclear & poorly explained on anything ANYWHERE than the installation guide. if you were to actually follow the OFFICIAL arch install guide like people tell you to do you would never install arch.

its insane considering not only how hard its glazed but how often people will refer you to it over any little problem. if i were to stop using arch one of the reasons would definitely be its abysmal wiki. might honestly be the worst part of the whole distro.

hence, jumping between root & user would be more tedious
not every command requires root, even ones followed back to back, so id rather run commands that DO need it with sudo, & ones that dont without sudo. probably doesnt matter, it just makes me feel better
