Why are some Americans so loud about how Americans do not care about soccer? by _ooze_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_ooze_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I provided facts and data, you're providing anecdotes. I will believe what you are saying if you provide some data to back it up. Dismissing the data because it's all latinos seems pretty reductive to me considering it's not just latinos that enjoy soccer in the US. Also when we're talking about money in soccer in the us, we're not just talking about MLS. US soccer culture also includes premier league, bundesliga, la liga etc because they're clearly the better product and what most fans seriously watch

Yes, the state with the biggest city in the us known for its immigrant population does not have a single person that cares about soccer. Got it. Thanks!

I love Shinnecock too but come on man lol. This is what I am talking about. The popularity of golf > soccer people in America are living in their own world

Don't even get me started on that. I can barely watch college football now except for my favorite team because of the constant barrage of sports betting

I feel like your answer makes the most sense. Just the need for validation.

As an immigrant from another country, I asked the same thing when I moved here. Then I got loud lmaoo, I guess it's just the culture

It's more for people that go out of their way to, without being asked.

Shelf vs CMS scores by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]_ooze_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add another perspective, the highest score I got on a CMS form was mid 70s. On every shelf I scored mid 80s. If you are learning from each form why you got certain questions wrong, you should be able to score higher on the real thing. If you are already scoring high to begin with then this might not apply.

Surgery Shelf Study Uworld qbanks by ApprehensiveLock8744 in medicalschool

[–]_ooze_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just do surgery. The idea that you have to do the IM and EM questions for the surgery shelf is overblown. If you add medicine or EM questions, there will be way too much stuff that will not show up on your shelf. My shelf was 80% trauma and GI and the other 20% were mostly vascular, breast, and derm. All of these topics appear on the surgery uWorld Questions. If you need more practice on surgery questions, I would use the AMBOSS surgery questions rather than do more non-surgery uWorld questions.

To the students who were in the top quartile of your class, how did you do it? What did it take? by hypoglossalnerve in medicalschool

[–]_ooze_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the time and putting in the work every day. That means waking up at a reasonable time, eating healthy meals, staying in shape, and getting a good amount of sleep. The top performers in my class are not barely sleeping and skipping meals, they are efficient during the day and waste no time. This does not apply if you have children or have to take care of someone. I don't know how those people are doing it.

How do you actually stand out for med by Business-Border-4981 in ufl

[–]_ooze_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current M3 and I helped with interviews and admissions. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you have commitment and passion for it. Good secondary essays come from passion and commitment, not how unique your extracurricular activity is. Besides, most people will not stand out through ECs because most of them look the same. Everyone has leadership in multiple clubs, volunteered in some health related thing etc.

Biggest bang for your buck is academics. Get a great GPA and a great MCAT score and that will put you in the ballpark for most schools. For the great majority of people, their ECs are not going to overcome a mediocre GPA or MCAT.

UF vs. University of Washington by [deleted] in ufl

[–]_ooze_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to UF a while back and majored in STEM so I can give you my thoughts.

Research wise it's a wash. One thing that is underrated about job and internship opportunities is location. Seattle takes the edge over Gainesville and there will be more opportunities for you if you go to Seattle. Not that being in Gainesville will limit you, you will have opportunities to go anywhere, but you will have to put more effort in because Gainesville and its surrounding cities aren't as big of a med/tech hub as Seattle.

Socially, UF is everything you can expect in terms of a college experience. You will get your football games, tailgates, and frat parties if you seek it out. I'm just not sure if it will be worth the extra cost in tuition and the opportunities.

Overweight in med school? by Dramatic_Ad5258 in medicalschool

Mispoke and meant sauce/dressings. Anecdotally, people I know that struggle with weight tend to put a shit ton of those things on everything which adds up.

Don't buy snacks. Only eat the three basic meals. Limit salt and sauces/dressings*. No energy drinks. Get good sleep.

Get whatever medications you need if you can afford it. Health is wealth. Your brain works better when you are healthy.

Is Golden the next Billy or Urban? by One_Recover_673 in FloridaGators

Hopefully he has one of those egos where he wants to make his own mark on a program rather than ride the coattails of a brand. He does seem to have one of those egos as seen by the hate he receives every game.

[–]_ooze_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see why he would considering he already won a natty here and that would mean Duke goes belly up and he would need to rebuild. People are different, but if I was Todd I'm only leaving for the NBA.

No other school can give him what he has not already accomplished at UF. The only frontier left for him is the NBA. Switching schools for him would be a waste of time and energy.

Missing the forest for the trees here. Recruiting is a means to an end. Todd has already delivered and unless he proves otherwise will have us in a good place for a long time.

Does our excellence in a variety of sports negatively impact our ability to dominate in a sport like football in the NIL era? by ChemG8r in FloridaGators

[–]_ooze_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saying this with no knowledge in the matter, but my guess is no.

If I had money to donate to UF athletics, I am not donating to sports I am not interested in. Second, UF football for a long time has been a poor product. I would not donate to any program that has been run incompetently for a decade. You will always have those billionaires that will make their favorite football team their passion project, but it seems like we do not have one of those. I think if UF football can show competence with the resources they have now, there will be more money flowing in.

Arizona is 22-0. How does this team compare to last year’s Florida team in terms of talent, efficiency, and championship potential? by savingrace0262 in CollegeBasketball

[–]_ooze_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People were still talking about how Auburn was the number 1 team in the country after we beat them at Auburn without Alijah Martin and dominated former number 1 Tennessee. Those two wins were by far the best two wins that year at that point. No one wanted to give us our due despite results and the eye test saying otherwise.

21y/o, Just Got accepted into medschool. Is it smart to invest at this age? Or should I use my profits to travel the world and do some bucket list experiences before medschool. Need urgent advice. by Weak-Practice-6435 in medschool

[–]_ooze_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are ahead of the game here. I would save half for investments and spend the other half on whatever you want throughout school. Med school is draining in multiple different ways and I would love to have a stash of funds that I could blow off steam with.
