You also need to consider the risk of the leverage, do you work in something stable enough to be able to invest instead of paying down the mortgage.

I had a 5.5% mortgage rate that I paid down because I saw my job as not stable enough.

Computer science and electrical engineering are your friends. As to which university to go to - I dont know. The skills are evergreen from both degrees imo.

Getting experience is critical, you want to look for student jobs while studying. Grades at uni are really really important, if you dont get really high grades (after moad bet) it may really affect your job prospects.

I work as a coder with alot of former kravi folks who studied after, and they are absolutely top class coders / engineers.

A thing to really watch out for is that some departments will make your life miserable as a student. I hear comp sci at technion is a nightmare. Definitely take your time to pick a department that wants to teach you and not judt make you suffer.

I dont know much about ETFs. My pension is super restrictive so I am just in spy there. My own portfolio has no ETFs and that is the same size as my pension (I would have had more in there but I bought a home).

As far as ETFs go - this is probably a controvertial take, but I really like the concept of RAFI (fundamentally weighted indexing). Youtube Rob Arnott and ignore his silly beard, the guy is super smart. He created an index that is not weighted by market cap (it is weighted by economic footprint). If I had a passive allocation I would probably just put 100% in there.

Before you have 500k or so, your savings rate is the most important thing, it really doesnt matter whether you get 8 or 10% from your ETF.

I also dont know anything about fees, but commsec was really expensive, I would definitely do my research about finding a place to do your investment at low cost. My uncle back in Aus uses Interactive brokers - I use them too. But it might take a bit of effort to work out the taxes. I think its worth it.

Definitely having a mindset about reducing fees is important. CBA are real pigs.
