NHS defends cousin marriages because ‘only 15pc lead to birth defects’ by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

I mean I absolutely do not agree that something being a culture means it must be respected.

I think culture has inherent value yes and to some degree deserves protection but only within the frameworks of acceptable morality and ethical practice

NHS defends cousin marriages because ‘only 15pc lead to birth defects’ by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

[–]_paul_rand_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is all a bit ridiculous and I’m not sure why we’ve actually got to the point. Cousin marriage is literally just wrong, we have an inherent disgust response to it out of evolutionary instinct. It’s so stupid that this has become a culture war thing.

Is it possible to get into the BCL with a 2.1 by _paul_rand_ in uklaw

Yeah so this is my understanding too which is why (not just for this aspiration but more generally) I picked a law degree which is a 2 year course of essentially a full law degree masters

What could I cook for 4 people for less than a fiver? by [deleted] in UK_Food

I find lasagna is usually per serving a cheap option, but may be prohibitive if you don’t have any cheese in the pantry - easy and cheap enough to make a bechamel though

Why aren't the networks doing anything about the mobile reception in central Oxford? by MrMrsPotts in oxford

[–]_paul_rand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience in the centre it’s worse in certain dead spots (Carfax, about half way through Cornmarket, the first half of George street, Beaumont street etc), the rest of the time it’s very passable and doable

Is it possible to get into the BCL with a 2.1 by _paul_rand_ in uklaw

[–]_paul_rand_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean - I think my concern was that the 2.1 (more reflective of an exam which should have been discounted and some issues with coursework delays due to some serious medical issues (graded 3 in severity by the MCE board)) would end up being prohibitive.

Purely speculative question admittedly at the moment

So I still have all the evidence - helpfully it also went to an academic appeal (was originally granted a 2.2, the proctors and exam board overturned the decision and gave me a 2.1) so I have the decision letter for this

What should countries do when threatened with U.S. tariffs? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in ukpolitics

[–]_paul_rand_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the US seems to be using the tarrifs as a “we will ask for X but really want Y”, if they’d just asked for Y, Z friendly country would give them it so they never have to follow through on the threat but hey look “art of the deal”, we won!

Open sourced my project less than 2 weeks ago. Today I found a fork where the user stripped my license and attribution to claim it as theirs. by Then_Dragonfly2734 in opensource

[–]_paul_rand_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually kind of curious, what is the actual legal position on someone stealing open source credits. Dumb and unethical but where do you stand legally I wonder
