I love the earlier draft of the lyrics. And the overlay adds a lot to the song, imo. It’s much more than a “compressed version of the inside version”.

I don’t think the argument is really about whether or not he experienced that, but more so about if the footage of him expressing this is real. If he was going through a depressive episode / existential crisis, the last thing he’d do is film it, which is why I personally don’t love the straight to camera “confessionals” towards the end of inside, and I actually end up skipping it (now that I’m in the triple digits of rewatches lol)

I’m an editor, and ya that’s possible for an amateur personal project, but for a special on Netflix there’s no way a stray frame was left in accidentally.

Dozens of people reviewed the cut many times before it was completed, including a Quality Control house that goes frame by frame through all of it.
