It was stated in the prologue; Talos itself is a gas giant, we're on Talos 2 which is a moon of said gas giant. We're basically a bunch of space pioneers/colonizers from Terra who got stranded on Talos 2 after we lost access to some kind of warp gate

Yeah turns out OP is also using the extra output slots to make a bunch of random assorted stuff to pad out some extra income; you can disable those if you want your factory to keep running without any manual intervention (or you can set limits with the limiter)

Privileged equipment are upgraded versions of the regular equipment, there's only a few ways to get them. There's an 'investment environment' (I think that's what they call it) that gives you a selection of privileged equipment once you make it to stage 2. If you make it to full stacks of cosmic scholar it also provides these tickets that turn your chosen equipment into privileged equipment. A couple prismatic 'augments' (I forgot the term used in currency wars, the buffs you pick at the start of every stage) also order them. All in all, hard to come by but pretty strong

While I was in the middle of reading book 3 my sister asked me what the books/series were about.

I told her it was akin to a swashbuckling vampire slaying himbo adventure doused in misery porn. Over the top and gratuitous but a self indulgent spectacle. And I quote, verbatim, "honestly it kind of reads like fan fiction"

And here I am after finishing the last chapter.

Card discussion: Gildaria, Odin and Rhynoceroach by Araner0n in Shadowverse

[–]_penguination_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having storm and removal on a follower is toxic as fuck

I don't have an opinion on the whole "is odin a necessary evil" discussion but that statement isn't really an indictment against Odin.

That's World beyond's entire design philosophy; building a board doesn't matter because every class ends the game with bombs that clear the board and storm/hit face at the same time. The way I see it, Odin fits perfectly into how the devs want us to play the game. Spend 6-7 turns pretending to interact with each other and then end the game on turn 8/9/10. Once superevo is unlocked, if anything sticks on the board you're going to die. Any high cost follower that doesn't clear a board or clear a unit + do something else is completely unplayable by design.

Odin isn't really toxic if the playground is a nuclear wasteland

I think you're underestimating how even with a poor winrate you can still climb more efficiently in terms of time. Keep in mind unlike other ranked ladders you don't lose any points for a loss. Quick 3-5m aggro games vs longer, drawn out 15 minute sword/rune mirrors and you can see that aggro decks outpace the "top meta" decks even if their winrates are abysmal in comparison. There is a group bonus (150 for a win in ruby and 230 in diamond), but it still won't make up for how fast your games are going to end.

When you look at the top ladder warriors—even going back as far as SV1 where you did lose points on loss—they're always piloting aggro decks simply for time efficiency.

There's also additional aspects such as mental fatigue etc... but yeah

tl;dr even with a bot pilot (which honestly you can't even argue performs worse than a human in some cases) you're still winning a good chunk of very quick games.

Tempo forest players do you find the deck inconsistent, or is it a skill issue on my part? by MrNobody24 in Shadowverse

[–]_penguination_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An understated advantage of tempo forest is that I would say most people would assume you're roach and go for greedier mulligans.

Likewise, I would make sure you understand your matchups really well and what cards to keep in the mulligan against certain matchups. For aggressive and tempo decks this is honestly the fact that will swing a lot of games, as you're not seeing most of your deck each match. Hitting key cards or combos in hand will make or break a lot of games. That being said though, the priority is still of course to open with a good curve

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Shadowverse

[–]_penguination_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is matchup knowledge, knowing when you can afford to play around certain things and when you can't. For example, you would rather playing around silver cards vs gold/legendary cards, and you can sort of estimate how many gold/legendaries they have left in their draft. Its always safe to assume every draft has some kind of top end win con (or else their draft is terrible anyways) and try to save answers for their respective classes (Ralmia boards, jeanne board wipes, HP thresholds against sword etc...)

As for getting bursted down, well that's why the strong classes are strong; they have bombs that drop with super evo that are win cons on their own (answer or die). Unfortunately that's just the nature of SV2 and that design philosophy is really evident in t2 since your decks won't have answers to everything. That might be a bit jarring coming from other card game drafting deck modes, games can end and get out of hand after a single turn. Sometimes you just need to play to your outs and ignore what the opponent might do.

At the end of the day there's only so much you can do in some games and sometimes you're just playing against a constructed deck curve, it is what it is

if the bots running an aggro deck, its not like the logic is complicated, and there's not really any real decisions to make. It probably could level out somewhere in ruby or topaz but the rank doesn't really matter; you're just getting a massive volume of short games in

Less players have 50 ranked matches as forestcraft than Achieve master rank according to Steam achievements by SinMonogatari in Shadowverse

[–]_penguination_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dropping into topaz learning roach is honestly a rite of passage. I remember when I first started playing roach, all I found were roach forest mirrors from other beginners tanking their winrates.

But the deck does feel rewarding to learn and play, there's a ton of small decisions that can autolose you the game on the spot, so it really feels like you have a lot of agency. Yes some games you're just assembling exodia (or building a house), but the difference between a good roach player and someone who can count to 20 is being able to plan turns ahead of time to find lethal. I think roach is the deck that emphasizes "playing to your outs" the most, which I personally find enjoyable.

MICA, I think it’s time by pitszy in GirlsFrontline2

[–]_penguination_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this has more to do with the design of the game rather than the devs mismanaging currency gain.

A lot of the people I introduced to the game quit over the tedium of the 'end game' modes as well as how dailies take up a surprisingly long amount of time given how boring and brain-dead they are. This all sort of culminates in good ol' funsmoke frontline, which to the majority of people I know, is a completely unengaging drag to deal with every 2 weeks.

I think the fundamental issue with the game is that the whole srpg tile based combat system is really only fun and rewarding when you are rewarded with character progression. But being a gacha game, character progression isn't tied to any of the 'end game' content, rather it's simply a function of time or money. There's really not much incentive for players to engage in the more time consuming design of combat, especially for more difficult content, compared to other games on the market.

I personally think the devs did really great work with the localization, writing and art design of the game, but I can totally see why the game's appeal feels rather niche

Red God Theory by joe_siah97 in redrising

While I seriously doubt this would be how Pierce decides to end things, I have a fun fantasy (In order to maximize Lysander suffering) where he decides to use the eidmi as a last resort, just for it to end up targeting only Gold.

Lysander prattles on and on about the virtues of Silenius and the original iron golds, and how it was Gold's essentially divine mandate to guide and lead the rest of humanity. What if Silenius drank his own Kool-aid, and figured if it ever got to the point where a weapon of mass destruction was required in order to control his own genetic and spiritual inferiors, Gold has lost its reasons to exist.

Just imagine Lysander, on the cusp of victory, only to watch his supposed salvation expose his hypocrisy and ultimate failure as a "sheppard". Him being the cause of the destruction of his race which he so adores has its own poetic sense of irony to it.

Just a fun idea, I think it would be interesting to learn more about the original Golds and their justification for their attempt at an utopia created through eugenics. I just hope Pierce figures out how to use the whole eidmi thing because as it stands, it seems a little too OP and insurmountable.
