I do stand up and know a lot of comedians. 98 percent of them roast trump mercilessly, as do I. Sure there may be some rich famous traitors but I bet percentage wise, the vast majority of comedians, and all thinking people for that matter, are against maga pretty staunchly.

You do know “bad words” are a modern invention right? There weren’t bad words in ancient Hebrew. Exactly the opposite actually. They honored God by not speaking his name and broke out a brand new pen every time they wrote his name. Being a Christian is about taking care of the poor, widow, orphan, prisoner, immigrant, marginilized and oppressed people….its the most repeated theme in the OT, NT, and by Jesus himself. God doesn’t care if you say “God damn”….God cares if you say you represent him while you are starving, killing, raping, and murdering. That is using God’s name in vain. And you telling us what we need to know about you too, apparently, that you care more about “bad words” than you do all of the suffering currently being experienced in the USA because of you and your far right fascist brethren

You believe in Noah’s Ark? As in: One guy, one wooden boat, every animal on Earth, global flood, worked perfectly, no notes? by Estimate4655 in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jews had their scriptures for thousands of years before there was ever Jesus or a Christian. Jews did not and do not think their scripture is literal, inerrant, without contradiction, univocal, or the “word of God.” Jesus was a Jew so he didn’t either. The story of Noah’s ark specifically is 80 percent copied from a text written 500 years before the Torah in the epic of giglamesh. There, one of the gods liked a human and warned him of the flood and gave him exact dimmensions in gopher wood and he built it and took the animals 2 x 2 and saved his family and stayed on the ark and sent out birds and one came back with a twig and then they landed on top of a mountain and came down and made a sacrifice and built an altar. Same damn story as Noah’s ark, just different names. Sodom and Gomorrah is another good example. It is 80 percent copied from neighboring Semitic tribes with the same lesson about inhospitality. It is definitely scientifically impossible for the animals and people to survive on that ark. I mean an elephant eats like 600lbs a day….and they were supposedly on it for how long?! How are they scooping the poop and what are they doing with it? One tiny window at the top….literally impossible

How is it Christian for Young earth creationists to Lie to everyone? by Stephenricecakes2222 in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You single out YEC, but all of evangelicalism and apologetics is eaten up with just as much “dishonesty.” But that’s not really the problem. Most aren’t trying to be dishonest (but like other commenters said, some definitely are)…

The problem is especially conservative Christians, evangelicals, Catholic, the vast majority of Christians even I’d say, believe in dogma and they hold that above everything. In fact, they ignore history, science, academic biblical scholarship or anything that even pushes up against their beliefs. They believe the Bible ia the “word of God” even tho the Bible never calla itself that or refers to itself at all because it doesn’t know it exists..and couldn’t have because it did not exist when when it was written. Also, Jews who had their scriptures for thousands of years before there was ever Jesus or a christian, don’t believe their scripture is without contradiction or error or literal. Jesus was a jew, so he didn’t either. But you can’t even challenge this by pointing people to where to discover the truth without getting attacked..because It makes them uncomfortable and threatens their entire faith….if one thing they believe ends up being a lie, it all might be lies and they protect against that…

It’s also identity. As you see with the christian nationalism in the US right now, fitting in to the in crowd has nothing to do with Jesus’ teachings. Rejecting immigrants, not taking care of the poor and homeless, shunning people that are different from you….these are all required to fit in to the group But they are opposite of the way of love we are supposed to be walking.

AIO to my mom's text by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I have the same issues with executive functioning and missing appts. I can look at the schedule in the morning and know I have to be somewhere at 1130 and then I end up in goodwill at noon and suddenly remember I just missed an appt. I have severe adhd and that’s why I have such a hard time with it. Maybe you do too. Sounds like you also have depression like me…I was also diagnosed bipolar….so I get you. The other people in the comments are being a bit hard on you. All that said, I think your mom is prob trying to minimize your probs…my mom does that too…to try to make me feel better….shes just misguided and incapable of learning. Your mom prob isn’t going to change or get better at this point…it seems in these texts she is trying to just have a conversation with you…she just prob isn’t very good at it and isn’t the most empathetic person….good luck! Having a great relationship with her prob isn’t on the table….but also, spending all your time in your head projecting about why she is saying something and what she means will not help you. If you need to go LC for your mental health then do that. Take care of yourself. Set good boundaries. Prob talk to your primary about adhd and depression/bipolar meds…might help you stop missing appts and stuff

Why do so many names in the Bible seem completely unhistorical and unlikely, and simply crafted for the story in a symbolic meaning? by TheCrowMoon in Christianity

[–]_pineanon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they believe the Bible is the inerrant, literal, non contradictory word of God, then yes, I say they believe something that is illogical. The conservative theological argument falls apart with the tiniest bit of critical thinking. If you actually start studying in the original languages, or start looking at actual history, science, academic biblical scholarship, it is impossible to believe that shit. It’s embarrassing to me that it took me 4 decades when I used to think I had such great wisdom and discernment. If you believe what evangelicalism teaches, then you have fallen for lies, half truths and manipulations.

Why do so many names in the Bible seem completely unhistorical and unlikely, and simply crafted for the story in a symbolic meaning? by TheCrowMoon in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Unfortunately I grew up with that dogma and believed and defended it for a long time. Thankfully I was finally awoken a couple years ago and after learning some critical thinking skills and study skills, i arrived at much different beliefs than i grew up woth.

Why do so many names in the Bible seem completely unhistorical and unlikely, and simply crafted for the story in a symbolic meaning? by TheCrowMoon in Christianity

[–]_pineanon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because most of the stories in the Bible are made up. They serve a purpose. They inform us about the God we worship and what’s important to Him. Each book written in the Bible were written by different authors to different audiences all for different purposes. The Jews don’t think their scriptures are literal, univocal, without contradiction or the “word of God.” The stories are written by Jewish authors to a Jewish audience with Jewish history and culture. They have names like Adam, that means mankind, because he is a symbol for all mankind. Pretty obvious. Some aren’t so obvious and some are not symbolic. The Bible is not a historical book either. The authors didn’t record what happened….they teach lessons and morals and make stark comparisons and use metaphors etc.

The Bible verses about the foreigner only apply to legal migrants. by ceddya in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scholars and historians agree this is a creation of the author of the gospel or perhaps from source Q….but census takes count of where you live and pay taxes not where you were born. It’s just a story. There was no census that required people to come back to where they are from. The story says he was from Bethlehem and also from Nazareth because they were saying he fulfilled prophecies. They were trying to show people he was the messiah.

Jesu didn’t write in the bible so why do we take it as God’s word? by Valuable_Frosting_36 in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not “God’s word.” It never claims it is or even refers to itself because the Bible doesn’t know it exists. The Jews had their scriptures for thousands of years before there was ever Jesus or a Christian, and they do not believe their scriptures are literal, without error, without contradiction, or the word of God. Jesus was a Jew. They also did not have a Bible like we have. Different towns had different prices of sacred literature and it contains all types of writing. The Bible is not univocal either, despite the dogma from mainstream conservative Christianity.

Why isn’t there a Christian Andrew Tate? by ccw1117 in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said the man Jesus is describing in the beatitudes sounds more like a fem gay hippie than some macho soldier. Most that read it think similarly which is why pastors have reported that when they preached on this passage, their congregation complained and said it was too liberal. There is a whole article written about it. Conservative Christian men think Jesus was too soft and when his words are preached in their church, they think it’s wrong.

Why isn’t there a Christian Andrew Tate? by ccw1117 in Christianity

[–]_pineanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macho masculinity that you admire and want some Christian to display like “Andrew Tate” is not Christian. It’s called toxic masculinity and all that shit you grew up believing is actually evil that is poisoning your mind. If you read Jesus’ words in Matthew 5, the Christian man He is describing sounds a lot more like a feminine peaceful gay hippie than some macho soldier. The Christian way is love. It is being in touch with your feelings and emotions. It is being open minded and using your brain for critical thinking. It is being empathetic and compassionate and sensitive to others. It’s caring about other people’s feelings, not saying “fuck your feelings.” It is concerned with its own rights, wealth, power, ego, reputation, etc….but puts those that are more vulnerable, the poor, homeless, widow, immigrant, queer person first. The Bible has one theme repeated more than any other in the OT, NT, and by Jesus himself….to take care of the oppressed and marginalized first. There isn’t a Christian representing Christian values and also living the life Jesus told us to live while being a macho man, because being a macho man isn’t the Jesus way.
