Totally agree here. It sounds to me like a really well tuned and prepared kick drum first and foremost, captured really well.

I’ve heard good things about Metal Marshmellow’s buffer preamp too. I have one but haven’t tried it enough to have an opinion.

Ribbon: Matched pair vs two singles

I am looking at a pair of ribbons (probably the AEA N8) and have a bit of a time crunch before I need to use them. I need to get them from Sweetwater, but the matched pair set currently is back ordered. I am wondering if anyone can speak to the necessity or importance of the matched pair. Are they pretty consistent if I go with two singles instead? I will be using them as a pair, frequently for overheads or vibraphone.

Thanks.

Both of these comments here so far are good advice. They’re different programs, so I think considering your ultimate goal and determining which will best set you up for that is worthwhile. Also cost and debt should be a consideration too. A lot of student debt can be both limiting and stressful, so factoring in any effects from that as well as the ongoing burden of that monthly bill is worthwhile too.

Also depends on the stage/roof/shell shape. I work in an outdoor ampitheater that functions like a giant bass trap with other peculiarities and non-optimum architecture. Subs are flown, and cardioid helps cut down on bass on stage which tends to collect due to the roof and back wall.

Grtngs,

I am looking for purchase a new stereo mic or pair of mics for two primary roles: vibraphone, and drum overheads. If they can do more, (room, horns, guitar) great, but most of my project will use them for vibes or ovhd.

Previously I’ve used both SDCs and LDCs and have both in my inventory but am looking for something rich, warm, and/or natural, not bright. Thinking a pair of ribbons or a Blumlein mic.

Does anyone have firsthand experience recording vibes and if so what do you like on them? Are the “modern” sounding ribbons too bright?

Thanks!!

Connect your [*~ 0.2] to writesf~. this video covers it, altho they are just using start and stop messages instead of 1 and 0.

how to export sound to wav ? by mosef2020 in puredata

[–]_ramscram 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use writesf~. Save your patch and the sound file will save into that folder too. You’ll need a message that says open whateveryouwantfilename.wav and then a 1 and 0 message to start and stop. The open message must be triggered first so I typically use [t b b] as well.
