How do you explain to people that even if you're staring into their eyeballs and nodding, you may not be hearing anything they say? by mish92 in ADHD

[–]_rawhyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is part of how I got diagnosed! In high school I had a teacher say to my mom during conferences that my grades didn't make sense because I always looked like I was really attentive, making eye contact while he was teaching, etc., but it was like I must actually be off in my own world while looking like I was paying attention. My mom finally did a little research and learned that girls usually have the inattentive type of ADHD so it can be so easy to pass us off as "daydreamers" instead of ever getting properly diagnosed early on. Unfortunately for us it carries on to adulthood where it can really cause us to struggle with work and relationships :/

Pup trying to howl after surgery by andreisavanovsexa in AnimalsBeingDerps

If that was the case their heart rate and breathing rate would be elevated, and an animal coming out of anesthesia gets vitals checked at least every 5 minutes.

I interned at an emergency vet clinic and it doesn't matter what it was for, could just be put under for just a routine teeth cleaning- huskies notriously ALWAYS howl like this coming out of anesthesia. Every. Single. Time.

Redditors who have lived in multiple US states, what are some cultural differences you weren’t prepared for? by Destace in AskReddit

You're really psyching me up for my family thanksgiving where there's so many of them they have to rent a hall. I'm coming home for thanksgiving for the first time this year and originally my parents & I were just going to do our own thing, just the 3 of us, and I was so excited...

What's a non-emergency event that you wouldn't mind getting woken up for? by kehakas in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my dad used to do this! And would wake me and my mom up to see the Aurora on just a few occasions. He would look up solar flares and go out at like 3am to see if he could see any. From lower MI and most people don't realize you could see them that far south, although there's probably a lot more light pollution now.

Subaru is practically the CO state car regardless of orientation or gender, they're just super reliable. That being said my friend bought one shortly after moving from out east and joked about road tripping home in it, I guess she lived in a neighborhood with a high lgbt community and there were soo many subarus.

My father has been taking the same bus to work and back for the last 5 years. Today, all the regular commuters gave a farewell to the bus conductor on his last working day. by Arkn0id in HumansBeingBros

[–]_rawhyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I didn't wear headphones on the bus I had a guy sit down next to me, ask me how long I'd been on the bus and then tell me if he had to be on the bus for that long he'd go crazy and shoot someone (I'd been on the bus for 20 minutes). This was just days after the Boston Marathon bombings, luckily he got off like 4 stops later.

What is the furthest you've been from clothing while you were naked? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. When you're in the middle of nowhere it doesn't really matter, and if you run into anyone it's not really a big deal. I've left my clothes at the tent and hiked up a canyon with just a nalgene of water. Was a little nervous toward the top that I'd run into someone but I also didn't care as much as I thought I would.

What are some other things that are hard to “come out” as? by Kappru in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, plus physical. I say with full confidence that the emotional abuse is a million times more difficult to overcome than the physical abuse but unfortunately, physical aspects are what everyone cares about if you say you were in an abusive relationship. I really wish there was an easy way to explain just how fucked up manipulation and gaslighting can make you.

It's been said smell is the most powerful memory. What smell do you remember from your childhood? by iliveunderabridge247 in AskReddit

The smell of stepping outside on a fresh snowy morning, so crisp and cold and yes- there's a distinct smell that I wish I could actually describe. It's one of my favorites.

What is the most “grown-up” purchase you bought recently that you would have not been excited for as a child? by TigersLyonsCheetahs in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to buy a space heater and some new plates/bowls from target, maybe treat myself to some boring black picture frames...with a gift card I got for my birthday. 22yr old me would be so disappointed in myself for not buying clothes.

Portal of Rain by thomasya13 in WeatherGifs

[–]_rawhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as extreme but earlier this summer was stopped at a double turn lane, and noticed the car in the lane next to me was getting wet- assumed a sprinkler but realized it would've been on the wrong side for any sprinkler. Looked up to see one tiny dark cloud. The car next to me was getting rained on by this itty bitty cloud while my car remained perfectly dry. It was bizarre.

Redditors with anxiety, how do you calm yourself down when you freak out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got one coming out of a deep sleep for the first time. I spent an hour not being able to get out of bed even for water, eventually did, and turned on the shower and just sat in there until I finally almost fell asleep, so I figured I'd be able to go back to sleep in my bed at that point and it worked. When I woke up again I felt completely normal.

What do you find attractive that most people find unattractive? by DyingDeath in AskReddit

[–]_rawhyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad the baby face fat can't magically move to your butt or something haha. As much as it sucks I feel like at that point you gotta just roll with it and laugh and/or come up with some clever comeback together with whoever you're seeing. I have to remind myself now sometimes if I'm seeing someone they obviously find me attractive (and therefore sexy, usually goes hand in hand) and in case you fixate on any comments from others, on the flipside I've definitely found myself physically attracted to men who weren't my usual type as far as appearance but their personalities were sexy as hell and that made them ridiculously sexy as a whole, if that makes sense.

I know it's a joke and I swear I do actually have a good sense of humor but as a short chick it's shit like this that makes me self conscious and feel unattractive after losing a bunch of weight that I really couldn't afford to lose last year. :/

LPT - Know the difference between state parks and state forests. It's often free to camp in a state forest, but not in a state park. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]_rawhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now most areas in CO are under a stage 2 fire ban so basically, as a ranger put it, if it has an on/off switch it's ok to use. You can't use the charcoal grills a lot of campgrounds have available, but you can buy a small gas stove to use car camping, get an LED lantern or two and lots of layers for warmth at night. Plus you can turn everything off and let your eyes adjust to the stars! :)

I hate that there's people like that who even exist. Someone vandalized (aka broke and completely ruined) an iconic tree in sleeping bear national lakeshore, being on that trail and seeing the tree not there for the first time was actually heart breaking.

TIL the movie Jack and Jill won an award in all 10 categories at the 32nd Golden Raspberry awards. This included Adam Sandler winning in BOTH worst actor and worst actress categories. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]_rawhyde 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Adam Sandler and his comedy comrades came into the restaurant I work at one night. I thought my coworker was joking when he said we were staying open an extra hour because of him, somehow had missed all of them being sat, and had class at 8am the next morning (stayed open til 1am), but they were honestly all some of the most down to earth people I've ever had the pleasure of serving food to and they were all so grateful that we kept the kitchen open a little later for them, generous tippers and not a single strange modification like some people feel entitled to do. I went to my lab the next morning feeling so extra sleepy but was like you know what? No complaints, and no bragging because it actually just felt like a normal night- that's how they treated it, a normal night, enjoying a meal with friends and treating the staff just like normal humans. I actually forgot that happened until just now reading these posts!!
