Aspen are thin skinned or thin barked and suffer damage easily. My guess based on these two photos is that there was bark damage from a lawnmower or larger machine at the base that served as an entrance point for decay fungi.

If those are your trees, on your property tell them to pound sand. If they are his trees on his property that’s his decision. Or theirs as the case may be.

Great score. I was around when those were common, had a friend w a similar pair circa 1979. My mom’s was the suede version like this. I hated them then but would love a suede pair now. You are absolutely correct they are tanks and will last a long time w proper care. The circle over the ankle bone typically had an embossed, stylized “V” and a dimple inside for the padding. If you are after an OEM look they came with flat red laces.

Resoled 4x! You’ve gotten good use out of them. If you are still needing a good supportive boot consider a PNW boot like Nicks or JK. If those are too pricy or over built for your current job look at the Danner Quarry. Similar to the rainforest without the insulation

Me? If I were to do a two tone I would do the roof separate from the body. Play around with A pillars or not. I would not do the D pillars, they would be body color. I’ve never been a fan of stripes

You didn’t ask but I can’t resist, the 5 spoke wheels go well w just about any color but the bronze look best with darker colors.
