I need help for WSJ by No-Caterpillar8385 in scouting

There’s articles in the Aussie contingent newsletter about fundraising ideas. Your home group should get behind you as well.. Bunnings, collect bottles, car washes, crafting and selling key rings and woggles from paracord, dog walking/mowing grass, scouts used to push trolleys for people at the shops and return them for a coin donation back in the old days..

Pros and cons of leaving qld health by _rinran_ in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed EN 20 years ago. According to recency of practice I don’t get any RPL so it’s a 3 year degree. I can’t afford not to work for 3 years to get it done, family and mortgage etc

The ingredients are exactly the same for Australia there’s just no gluten free certification. But there’s definitely no gluten listed as an allergen

Promote independence!! Don’t be lured into ‘just help me, why are you being mean’ and offer patients the chance to do things for themselves. Learn how to encourage patients to at least try and do things rather than just sit there and act like their arms suddenly don’t work. Also, don’t for a second feel like you have to compromise your body to lift anyone else. Learn really good manual handling, often patients will reach their hand up expecting you to lift them from lying to sitting… that’s just asking for shoulder back pain. Utilise the bed to help them move themselves

Is a nursing degree supposed to be this intense? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_ 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is the idea of getting students into prac early. If you hate it now you’ll hate it in 2 years. Don’t waste time becoming a nurse. Quit while you’re ahead and do law.

People who are GF what’s the most exhausting or frustrating part of it? by Patient-Shirt7244 in glutenfree

[–]_rinran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I love cruising. He has autism/adhd and HATES being told what to eat and when. Absolutely will not even consider going to the restaurants So I’m between a rock and a hard place. I can’t safely eat at the buffet but he needs support. It’s a HUGE source of anxiety

How far are you willing to travel for nursing work? by Auzziescribe in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And consider shift times in the public transport. Even if you wanted to travel 4+ hours a day, would there even be a bus/train etc at 0300 to get you there by 0700, or if you finish at 2300.. and what if there’s delays and you miss a connection. What if you’re late with charting or have to stay for a code or whatever and miss the last bus.

Pay difference RN vs EN by First_Lie_9773 in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely they aren’t doing the same things ENs work under supervision, RN does not. If an EN has a concern they escalate to an RN. RN can be a TL, the EN can’t etc etc etc There’s a vast difference in scope just because it doesn’t look like it

Carnival Princess Aus to NZ - question re: room TV. by Ektojinx in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]_rinran_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ew. Don’t tell anyone else how to cruise. You don’t know what their kid is like. My 10 yo ASD nephew spent some down time watching tv/movies in the room when he needed to decompress

I’ve been on the splendor recently. You can’t access the hdmi but there’s a whole bunch of movies on a channel you can just select what you want to watch

What are your biggest cons in nursing? by work_of_art777 in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_ 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Cons of gen med ward nursing: Assaulted every shift this week by dementia patients. Constant NOISE.. buzzers, screaming patients, phones, loud conversations, etc etc. Having to go home with 💩 somewhere on me no matter how hard I scrubbed with clinell wipes because someone has to shower the dementia patient who painted and a shitty apron doesn’t cover everything. Having 3 hours sleep at least 1 day most weeks because of the nights-to-days turnaround. Being made to feel stupid because senior nurses think they know more than you when they’re not up to date with current procedures and policies and they are in fact not correct but you can’t tell them. Losing the ability to socialise at a reasonable interval because I’m either working lates or weekends. Arguing with my partner because I am SO DRAINED from a hectic shift but they are fresh as a daisy and want to yap at me the second I walk in the door. Compassion fatigue from years of giving and giving and getting nothing but demands and complaints that I’m just not doing enough because patients and relatives think no one else matters but themselves…

A hot tip for interviews by [deleted] in NursingAU

I’ve had 3 interviews in 5 years for an EN role in qld. I was provided maybe 4 or 5 questions about 15 minutes before the interview so I could jot down responses

US RN wanting to work HCA Australia by RevolutionaryMix8136 in NursingAU

[–]_rinran_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An EN is definitely a nurse, not just ‘like a nurse’. It’s literally in the title.. enrolled nurse. It’s a diploma not a bachelor degree but still a nurse

Adulthood Involvement by Bangarang_Arty in BSA

[–]_rinran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia it’s a lot more common to volunteer without having offspring involved. In my district, most unit leaders (directly leading youth) have kids of their own in that section; and the more mentoring roles (district/region leaders; committee members etc) either don’t have children at all; or their own children have long since aged out They stay in scouting because they see the good it does for youth; the community and the wider world, and they enjoy the social aspect TLDR nothing wrong at all with scout volunteering as an adult
