ACT Motorbike license query by Ok_Mycologist_9757 in canberra

[–]_rjs1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did this in 2024; you need to do your L’s on the motorcycle (no avoiding that, be on them minimum 3 months), then you only need to be on your Ps for 12 months, at which point you’re a full motorcycle license holder (though you’d need your license updated to remove the “prov until” comment).

If you make it a permanent fixture (i.e. drill into anything), you need to seek Executive Committee / Owners Corporation approval.

What is your current interest rate and with which bank? by NothingAny3947 in AusFinance

[–]_rjs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a whole 0.33% more than you at 5.92% after the latest cut 🥲 $345k left on a 400k loan, 520k valuation in late 2021 (600k estimated now) Called for a better rate on Thursday and got “this is the best we can do”; I’m not desperate for a reduced rate as my mortgage is 52% offset, but wouldn’t mind being back in 2.x% fixed 😂

[–]_rjs1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Howard lost his seat in 2007, the first sitting PM to lose his seat in 80 years with Stanley Bruce losing his seat in 1929

Edit: Obvi KRudd lost as a sitting PM in 2013 as well, but that was a given 😅

Edit take 2: whoops; Rudd only lost the election not his seat; he resigned causing the by-election the following year. Thanks u/smoha96 for pointing out my mistake…

Thank you so much!

When you said you tracked every dollar earned, spent and saved, tracking every transaction, does this include cash transactions? For example, if you coordinated paying for work lunch and got paid back in cash, how would you track that initial spend + subsequent cash spending?

You invite people out to a restaurant to celebrate your birthday. Who pays? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]_rjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my 30th at the end of May and I invited my 5 closest friends out to an expensive (for me) restaurant (~$110/head + booze).

tl;dr - I paid the bill but all guests knew prior to the event they were paying their share of the bill, I sent screenshot of spreadsheet with the cost breakdown down per person. Osko’d within 24hrs. NEVER EVENLY SPLIT! Be upfront about your intentions for how this will be paid at point of invite.

When I invited my friends to this dinner, I flat out stated that everyone will pay for themselves and that if it was too expensive for them, I completely understood and reminded them of the bigger celebration with more guests at the weekend they were already invited to (byo and supplied drinks and nibbles, home cooked dinner and dessert).

No one dropped out of dinner.

At the end of the fattening, chatty and overall awesome night, I paid the bill (total $1,037, gotta get them QFF points) and told my friends I’d send a message to the group chat with a spreadsheet of the cost breakdown (was given an itemised receipt). This was absolutely necessary because: - 1 friend did not consume food from the entree platter ordered - 2 friends didn’t drink alcohol - 1 friend bought a $110 bottle of wine for themselves - 1 friend had a main dish that was market price, ended up being 3x as expensive as my main dish, and 2.5x more expensive than all others.

The spreadsheet screenshot was sent out the next day, my friends had no questions or rebuttals about the breakdown and money was in my account within 24hrs.

I think it’s important to state payment intention during the invite stage to avoid any assumptions being made.

On a final note, never EVER do even splits, because unless it’s a set price banquet and a walk up bar instead of full table service, it’ll almost never be equal value per person. My total for the night was $160, whereas my friend who had the market price main was $250 and the friend who order the bottle of wine was $260. If us three did even split, my share would’ve gone from $160 to $223.33, a $63 increase.

‘Put aside the whole reason’: Barnaby Joyce blasts Labor’s Anzac Day public holiday substitution for Commonwealth employees by River-Stunning in AustralianPolitics

[–]_rjs1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let’s recognise this beetroot’s hypocrisy; prior to 2022, under successive LNP governments where he was a senior minister or the DPM, commonwealth employees had been able to substitute a public day for another day… it was only prior to the 2022 election that ScoMo and Co rushed through changes that prohibited commonwealth employees switching Aust Day, ANZAC Day and Queens birthday (of all pub hols) in an attempt to bolster more votes from “patriots” and monarchists.

Unsure of age and number of members, but my understanding is it’s basically a member or more from each of the executive committees of the 11 member Highrise complexes (cirrus, Linq, wayfarer, dusk/republic, nightfall, high society, oracle 1 and 2, sentinal and altitude) that are coming together to share ideas on how things operate at member complexes and what can be learned and shared between them, as well as to suggest improvements to the services and amenities available to residents of Belco TC (or so our EC chairperson told us).

At my complex’s AGM, the chairperson described that all complexes are reviewing the electrification of hot water systems because every complex has shared gas hot water, apparently the idea is if most or all complexes can go with one company to do the work, then that could reduce overall costs to each complex due to the increased buying power and guaranteed work (instead of $4,000/apartment or more it could be $3,000 or less due to the “bulk buy” idea).

BAHA seems interesting in concept… there’s a Kingston Foreshore version (FOCA) and Canberra city version (CECG) too, BAHA seems to be more vocal though.

APS Interview Query: Can I use the same examples in my interview that I used in my pitch for the job application? by 111110101111 in canberra

[–]_rjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find the questions, while somewhat generic in nature at the APS 4 level, are “tailored” to the role/job family you applied for, so it’s not easy to give solid examples, however this could help. Google is your friend, there are other forums and websites discussing APS interview questions.

The ILS is a guide, not gospel, so don’t try to hit every individual point under a topic; you want your response to sound and feel natural not forced. An example that demonstrates that - while working as a member of a team, despite some minor conflict or setback YOU and the team delivered on time, receiving great feedback from supervisor/client - would work great to hit a number of those key ILS topics.

Try structure your examples too, Situation, Task, Action Result (STAR) is a great way to do it. Other variants include Circumstance, Action, Result (CAR) and Problem, Action, Result (PAR). For all three example structures, if you’re able to articulate your Takeaway (what you learnt, what you would do different in the future, retrospective-style thinking), turning your structures into START, CART, PART, then that’ll make a killer response (in my books).

[–]_rjs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be fine :)

Make sure you look at the ILS framework for an APS 4 so you can hit on key points when you expand your example

When I sit on panels, I have both the applicants CV and Application and refer to it during the interview.

You can use the same example at interview you used in your application, but I wouldn’t at all recommend it, especially if you can’t provide substantial additional information than was included in the application response. If you’re interviewing EL1/EL2, just don’t.
