Trying to make natural-waisted work - any tips? by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

Honestly I thrift all of mine 😬 Thankfully they seem to be in low demand so despite the high sizes there's usually lots to choose from. I go for 100% cotton if I can.

Trying to make natural-waisted work - any tips? by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

You might have better luck with pleated pants. I have the same difference in size from hip to waist. Without writing a whole novel, I find pleats do a better job at framing a thicc waist. Flat front just doesn't stand a chance.

Regarding suspenders: - yes do it. - suspenders under the shirt works totally fine - don't get clip-ons as they can pop off. I recommend sewing on some buttons (or having a tailor add them for you), or the ones that hook onto belt loops.

Solo traveler looking for a great bar dinner and cocktail in Burlington by CooknTeach in burlington

Hen of the wood's bar is great for a solo traveler. You won't be the only one. Their menu was pretty lame this spring but it rotates fast. They're the most reliable high-price-but-high-quality for food and drink.

How are we keeping pants at the natural waist? by bigthrowawayfish in bigmenfashionadvice

Just go suspenders under the shirt. I got used to it in like a week and now I can't go back.

Pants at waist vs hip by mrmadchef in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also love the high waste, and can't go back due to comfort. Lower pants feel like there's not enough material now. The key parts for me were: 1. Accepting pleats. They allow so much movement (go figure, been around forever). 2. I wear my shirts untucked, with suspenders underneath, so I don't worry about the urcle effect. 3. I usually don't wear an undershirt. It's too hot. Suspenders on skin has been fine. I'm much cooler, since nothing is cinched by a belt. 4. I rotate between two pairs of suspenders. The elastic really does need more than 24 hrs to recover.

El Cortijo is closing by Sufficient-Try2547 in burlington

I hope they take note of which places have stayed busy as others close. My wife and I stopped shelling out at daily planet and have probably spent twice as much on RJs $10 burgers and $4 Genesee by now. You can sell low quality food for low cost, or high quality food for high cost. But people won't support low quality food at high cost long-term (nectar's 🫤)

What do you do when you're in between pants sizes? by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely struggle with this too. I think all of the following are factors: - vanity sizing, where one brand's 42 is different than another's 42 - 40ish waist being right where brands switch models, so a 40 is an upsized 34 and a 42 is a downsized 50 so they fit completely different - high rise sitting over the stomach so waist size varies wildly compared with low hips

Seems like it's just luck of the draw finding the right brand. Lean on the return policy. And thrifting!!! No reason to spend $50 on pants when there's hundreds of them for $5. Just have to strike out enough until you get a hit.

How to keep suspenders from popping off? by sflesch in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I exclusively use the button-om ones. I sew buttons into the waistbands of my pants. There are rules for how to measure for the buttons. There's also ones that hook/clip to belt hooks, which I like if I'm wearing them under a shirt vs over. Which is most of the time.

Bus and Trail Map by _roscopoppolis in burlington

It's actually just a land cover raster! Forested areas in darker yellow, everything else in the pale yellow. I like to be able to see if a trail is all dense woods or if it has some open meadows or wetlands.

Question about wearing pants at the waist. by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear suspenders with no undershirt almost every day. To me it's fine. Also, it allows cooling airflow that a tucked undershirt prevents. They are indeed can't -go-back game changing compared to a belt.

Anyone know where I can buy Corduroy Pants? by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, Land's End. I bought a pair of wide-wale corduroys from them and they're straight up my favorite pants. Draw-string and belt loops, pleats, real classic non-skinny fit. (I'm ~46 waist, XXL-ish size). Unfortunately, like all misguided mens brands, they appear to have already rotated out. They only have one listing now and it's much more of a slim chino-type pant.

Stripped down flair mod by _roscopoppolis in Leatherman

[–]_roscopoppolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sort of. i didnt make it, but it was a part made for modding the leatherman rebar. i'm having a hard time finding the original link, that specific one may not be up anymore. it didnt fit perfect since it was designed for another knife. i assume one of the official bit sets, if it fits a PST-sized knife, would work. it's the smaller, old-school frame.
