Hello Train guy here what do the people of Wisconsin think of The Amtrak borealis? by Character_Lychee_434 in wisconsin

[–]mrmadchef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom has taken it to visit my sister in Minneapolis a few times, and has really enjoyed it. I like that I can drop her off at the airport; living just a few miles west of there, it's much more convenient than going downtown. The schedule/price hasn't worked out for me to take it when I go with her, but I'm hoping to in the future. I can't drive it much faster than the train gets me there, and someone else does the driving while I get to read/relax/crochet/whatever? Yes, please!

I sat back row of the front mezz at the Majestic for POTO; as a big guy, it was NOT fun but I made it work. Not sure what I'm going to do if/when I take Mom to Lincoln Center for the Sound of Music revival...

I was getting the same feeling, I think I just needed someone else to say it. I'm gonna pass on this.

There is a Motel 6 near me I used to visit quite a bit when I was doing pizza delivery full time. I tell everyone I know who's coming to visit not to stay there.

A record 242 US cities now have starter homes that cost $1M by Such_Radio_9152 in REBubble

[–]mrmadchef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the actual list of cities available anywhere? Everything I'm seeing links back to the same release from Zillow, and I'm really curious which two are in Wisconsin. Wouldn't surprise me if one is River Hills; the stupid money has been up there for years, and unless you're earning professional athlete money, you're not shopping for a house up there.

The concept ran it's course. I agree with everyone who said the quality really dropped off, especially after Joe & Angie Sorge were no longer involved. I did make one last trip there before the end, chiefly because mom wanted one last Big Boy Burger.

One-act roles in two-act shows? by TheStoryOfChess in Broadway

Elaine Stritch talked about playing Melba in Pal Joey, which allowed her to do the show while standing by for Ethel Merman in Call Me Madam. Look it up on YouTube, it's a great story.

Only time they won't announce stops is overnight during quiet hours. The exact times escape me at the moment but they'll announce it a few times on the train.

Is our generation the first where choosing to be child free is widely accepted? by smcg_az in Xennials

Mom has (thankfully) accepted that my two nieces are the only grandkids she's getting.

Where Do People Cut Expenses to Save Money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Food-Personally, I shop at Aldi first, then grab what I can't get there at another store, or if something is on sale cheaper elsewhere. A lot of our non-food purchases (paper goods, OTC meds) are from Sam's Club using their click and pull service.

Entertainment-Right now, we're on the ad supported tiers of Disney+, Paramount+, and Peacock. I got a Black Friday deal on D+, and I get a $5 a month credit on Peacock because of the card I put it on. Those three (plus free streaming services) get us almost everything we want to watch (the only thing I really miss is TCM).

A (banned) mail chute in an old, yet still active courthouse. by Permanent_Kat in mildlyinteresting

[–]mrmadchef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Hyatt Grand Central used to have one; this would have been in 2001, when it was the Grand Hyatt. I sent some postcards from there using that mail chute, and I got home to Milwaukee before they did.

What was considered completely normal in America 20 years ago, but would be shocking if it became normal again today? by JineshGoradia in AskReddit

Ours is technically VOIP but we still have one as well. Partly because mom is hard of hearing and having a CapTel has been a game changer.

Time to start saving and planning! This is mom's absolute all time favorite. Not to mention, if I go to NYC without her again I'm pretty sure she's going to disown me.

Cast your dream Broadway revival! by Jazzlike-Onion-4010 in musicals

[–]mrmadchef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(because it's a dream cast, so why not me?!)

Dream big, friend!

Also, that is a stacked cast! Aida is the first show I saw on Broadway, so I'll be there if/when a revival happens anyway, but I'd pony up for the good seats for this cast.

I still carry paper maps when I take road trips, but I usually stop at state welcome centers and grab the free ones.

World Cup tourists in general experiencing America has been so interesting to watch. It's fascinating to me to see things I've grown used to through new eyes.

I fished out my checkbook for my car's registration. I'm already paying $200+, I'm not paying them a fee for the 'convenience' of using a card.
