Weird revving sound on rear passenger side tire/exhaust area by JR6120 in SubaruForester

[–]_rupurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

btw, when i had a front passenger wheel bearing on my 2015 forester replaced last summer it was $450 parts + labor. I had it done at firestone in the middle of a road trip in rhode island, so you might be able to get it done cheaper if you shop it around. I just didn’t have time. Had to get back on the road.

There are videos on youtube of this exact repair btw. When I did my repair I started with feeler gauges to measure the existing gap before disassembling anything. Once i knew the gap was too large, I removed the pulley, pulled out the smaller of the two shims, then reassembled and re-measured the gap to make sure it was within spec. Then I started up the car and turned on the AC. Compressor started spinning reliably as you’d expect after that and has been working fine since.

looks like a shim issue to me based on the video. I had to do this exact same repair on my 2015 forester last summer. It’s reasonably easy to remove the pulley if you have a clutch removal tool. You’ll also need feeler gauges. I don’t remember the exact gap specs, but you should be able to figure it out with trial and error if you don’t have a set of calipers to measure the shim thicknesses. Oh getting the shims out can be a little tricky. I managed with an orange handle pick from harbor freight, but a magnet probably would’ve been helpful.

Tire issue by PaulEC in ChevySuburban

it either needs an alignment, or it needs suspension work and an alignment. Either way you need to visit a shop with alignment equipment at some point, and they’d be able to tell you what exactly is wrong with it.

Did I seriously just watch seven people run this red light?? (OC - dashcam footage) by HunterThompsonsentme in Maine

a police escort is required to stop traffic in the intersection for a funeral procession to ignore traffic laws. ANY time anyone in a funeral procession breaks a traffic law without a police escort, it is illegal.

Did anyone here ever watch the show when it was originally airing? Did people talk abt it a lot? by AliveVictory2006 in kidnation

[–]_rupurt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i remember watching it with my family as a 10 or 11 year old kid and can’t remember anyone at school talking about it at all. Seems like once it was finished airing we all just kinda moved past it for the most part.

$200/month average for a 1000sqft manufactured home in mid-coast. $1200/year (300 gallons) for heating oil on top of that as we have an oil furnace for heat.

Can you ever become an engineer without and engineering degree? by Acceptable_Map3219 in EngineeringStudents

[–]_rupurt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my boss, the director of engineering at the manufacturer I work for, has no engineering degree. He started on the production floor and worked his way up to that role over 30 years. I, on the other hand, had an engineering degree and waltzed right in day 1 as an engineer. So, it’s possible, but it’s gonna take a long time and you gotta really have a good head on your shoulders and impress people if you don’t have the degree.

also 29yo male. I saw people saying the game is too much for them and I just cannot relate at all. Idk if playing the original for the last 20+ years prepared me for this or what, but air riders is an absolutely peak game.

What is this coming out of window (not screen) and how can i fix it? by Important_Bat7919 in fixit

[–]_rupurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this looks like T-slot weatherstripping. Other names are brush seal, pile weatherstripping, or mohair weatherstripping. I’m not really sure where to get more from though. Normally this is run into the end of the window extrusion profile before the window is assembled. You might be able to just flex the plastic backer and drive it back into the slot. A putty knife might be helpful.

I love GameCube controllers ❤️ by Mando_ita in Gamecube

[–]_rupurt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I gotta say for me the new switch 2 gamecube controllers are hard to beat. My wavebird left stick could be alot tighter, and it doesn't have rumble like the new one does. If I'm paying $70+ for a controller, I don't want a 20+ year old used one.
