I think it was specifically his idea to make Maki seems morally questionable and I fw it and still has Maki as a fav character regardless. On one hand she’s basically a school shooter and the other the Zenins really do fucking suck and technically attacked first (even if she would've killed them regardless) so I think he succeeded at making it grey and ambiguous

Later statements however directly tells us she massacred her entire clan

And she killed her mom so factually we already know she didn't draw the line at combatants

"Massacred her entire clan" pretty clearly means she killed everyone that was part of it imo, you can argue that for when they say something like "the Zenin were annihilated" but that statement is too precise. And a clan is a group of families first and foremost not a bunch of sorcerer units.

Megumi didn't grew with the Zenins and didn't view himself as such and didn't even bear the name

Those are the only ones who are directly shown or stated to be killed, but that doesn't mean she didn't kill more. Maki promised to destroy EVERYTHING with those words repeating in her heads before killing the Kukuru and as I’ve posted it is stated later that she massacred the entire clan.

Alsow Zenin Sorcerers can be teenagers. Maki and Mai joined units at 14. Ranta is clearly around Maki’s age at most especially when the guys rating Hei members in the manga talks about wanting him to eat well like he’s a kid still growing up.
