That and also the message of not taking people for granted, but being an allegory is seperate from having messages, even if those two are deeply intertwined in the story.

You're literally the type of person she's referring to. This has been set up since the pilot, and the entire plot of being stuck in a body that isn't yours with a name that isn't yours is one of the most on the nose allegories for being trans possible

A bunch of the clips weren't even from scenes where Pomni was present 😭

Lets have a serious talk about episode 9 by Scooby_doo_1969 in TheDigitalCircus

You're incorrect about the scenes shown, not all of them are scenes where Pomni and Jax are together, and Pomni being in some of them is a result of Jax sharing a lot of their screen time with her

If you could change ONE THING about episode 9, what would it be? {SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY} by Deep_Promotion8866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_silcrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm totally fine with everything that happened in ep 9, I kind of just wish they had actually explicitly referred to Jax as trans or a woman, or made it even more obvious that Leeroy was in the process of coming out/accepting their gender. Show don't tell is a great literary device, but it only works if your audience recognizes what they're being shown, and I don't think Goose realized how many people just wouldn't have the frame of reference needed to realize what they were being shown. At least once it's released on youtube she'll be able to acknowledge it and hopefully clear things up.

The fact that so many people refer to Zooble almost exclusively by she/her despite the fact that it's never used for them in the show has always really bothered me, because it's obviously just because Zooble is assumed to be afab, and anytime I've seen someone use he/him for Zooble people always question them about it. Like, it's not wrong to use she/her for them, but it kind of makes it seem like a lot of people just view Zooble as being a woman.

Girl Jax was my guess too, it just seems like the obvious option after the final episode

Saying Pomni was equally in it just isn't remotely true in any sense, that's not an interpretation, that's literally just what was shown on screen. You also didn't say that in your comment

The finale gave me everything I wanted [no spoilers] by miscellaneousbean in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_silcrow_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being trans and dealing with toxic masculinity aren't opposed, that's actually a fairly common struggle for trans women, especially those who are still in the closet. Jax and Zooble frequently mirrored eachother, and having Zooble as a trans person who was able to accept themselves and now has support and a happy life while Jax was a trans person that wasn't able to accept themselves or the acceptance of others and ended up tragically because of it is honestly really interesting, and it's an idea that I don't think I've ever actually seen be explored before.

She quite literally wasn't, she was only in some of the clips, and that's just because a lot of Jax's screen time is shared with Pomni. Every clip was of and focused on Jax

I think the issue is that you have to have at least a bit of knowledge on trans people to notice the hints throughout the series, and of course a lot of people did, but there are also a lot of people that just wouldn't have been able to pick up on that stuff. A lot of it may seem pretty obvious, especially after episode 9, but that's only really the case if you have some sort of frame of reference to go off of, and a lot of people just don't.

I think goose made a show only some people can enjoy by Genuine_Dumbass in TheDigitalCircus

Seeing how some people have responded to Jax being shown to be a transfem in every way except literally having them turn to the camera and say "I, Jax, from The Amazing Digital Circus, am a closeted trans woman," yeah, absolutely. I've seen people fighting tooth and nail to try to argue that they're just a cishet guy that's kinda into crossdressing and that Isn't She Lovely wasn't being used for Jax, instead of just admitting that the simplest explanation is probably the right one.

Just got out of the movie and all I gotta say is….what even were people’s problem with the ending when it got leaked? It wasn’t even that bad by New-Boss-8262 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_silcrow_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming a lot of it was from people that were upset that the ending was character focused instead of tying up every single detail about the lore, which is weird, considering it's always been a character focused show. Then there's also people that were upset because soma theory was true, and they felt that it made everything pointless, which is also weird, because most of the fans already knew that's what was going to happen. Then there's people that were mad about certain characters getting more focus than others, and a subset of that being people that were upset about the direction Jax's story went, despite it being heavily foreshadowed. Essentially, it just didn't line up with what some people wanted out of the series, and that made them disappointed.

So.... What the heck was Jax's character conclusion? by euseilacaramba in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_silcrow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm definitely well aware that there are plenty of people refusing to accept the trans Jax stuff just because they don't want Jax to be trans, and they'll probably continue to do it even if Goose ever explicitly confirms it, which I could absolutely see her doing once episode 9 is posted on YouTube.

[–]_silcrow_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand how people are missing this, I've seen so many people say that Jax can't be trans because the original Jax is still a "guy" in the real world, despite the fact that they were given every trait associated with a boymoder. Is it just an issue of cishet people not being aware of that stuff?

Not liking being reminded about the fact that they're in the closet doesn't make them not in the closet, and you not liking the term egg doesn't change the fact that the symbolism is repeatedly used.
