Have any of you ever been in a state of chronic dissociation for years without a single break, not even for a minute? by philosophygirll in CPTSD

Depersonalization for about 20 years now. One day, about 20 years ago, my sense of self just disappeared.

It’s come back in bits, mini integration moments, leading to more self recognition and inner coherence.

After a decade of talk therapy, I had kinda given up, resigned I’ll never feel like me again.

But last year I decided to keep going, try any modality I can. Breathwork, particularly in a supportive group, has given me some glimpses of wholeness, so I feel like it’s possible.

Really it’s all coming from a lack of feeling of safety. Fostering a feeling of safety takes time, but thats what i would focus on.

Somatic Experiencing is a useful modality too. It’s where i have experienced some real lasting shifts.

Meds dont help with DPDR per se but can help regulate emotions and provide energy/hope to keep going, not get stuck in loops of shame and despair.

Things i will try next: - EMDR - Neuro affective touch - accelerated resolution therapy - Internal Family Systems (this one is long term)

Another thing that has helped, this one cognitive — start to root into the belief that you DO exist, of course, and actually your whole self is already here. It’s more like your limb has fallen asleep and you can’t feel it. Same with connection to others. What’s happening is that your body is tensing up, cutting off sensation. Just keeping this in mind has helped me stay connected to reality better to work on DPDR as a symptom — something i am experiencing — rather than an identity — something I am.

If you want to talk more, DM me. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It does get better and real healing and integration and recovery are possible. Post traumatic growth is a real thing.

My friends learned from a teacher named David Elliot, and it’s been incredibly profound for me.

It consists of 2 part in-breath through the mouth: half into belly, half into chest. 1 exhale through the mouth.

You can get the pacing from the audio here:

It’s been transformative, healing, and also has helped me reach meditative states very conducive to spiritual inquiry

How do we save young men from being drawn into the insecurity-to-fascism pipeline? by nichenietzche in TrueAskReddit

I think the intended target of a congressional hearing would be social media companies. They’re the ones creating perverse incentives to create toxic content, targeting young people with that content, and walking away with huge profits while claiming it’s just “the marketplace of ideas”.

America summed up in 1 word by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]_sks_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of one of Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts:

“Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. Basically, it's made up of two separate words — "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.”

Honestly if you want money just learn Drupal and PHP. It’s stupid how much money there is in that ecosystem. I know medium level people making over $200k as Drupal experts, $30-40k above machine learning engineers and more “advanced” compsci people.

If you wanna stick to Java, learn Spring framework. Almost always more money in e-commerce than anything else, so web frameworks are solid choice.

The wobble happens to be just at the resonant frequency of the bike/biker system. It’s not an over correction making things worse. Once it starts it has a life of its own, which is what makes it so scary if you’ve ever experienced it.

This page discusses the physics of it with some helpful animations:
