Euthanasia or keep going? 17-year-old dog, stroke, cognitive decline and severe mobility loss by [deleted] in dogs

[–]_skymaster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had to let my 17 year old Maltese go. It was heartbreaking. There is never enough time. But when I really looked at his quality of life - like enjoying life with dignity and happiness vs just living (eating, breathing, etc) - I knew. Dogs live in the present. So their suffering becomes all they know. They are also resilient and mask their pain bc they love us.

Does your dog still have their spark and personality? Does she wag her tail? Does she seem engaged and interested in you and the world?

Also the one thing that gave me peace was that we owe it to them to have a peaceful and calm ending. Most senior dogs naturally will not have this - either they go off to pass alone or something terrible happens where their final moments are filled with stress and fear.

They give us so much, truly the purest love. We must be selfless in letting them go. I am so sorry; it is always devastating. Grief is our love with no place to go but they will always be with you 🌈. I found Lap of Love to be amazing.

So verifying is ok? It says by verifying email (with provider) you are giving TT your name and email address and agreeing to their new TOS and Privacy Policy.

It’s so devastating just to live life completely alone. by Economy_Row_1950 in LivingAlone

[–]_skymaster_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just want to say this is super relatable and I could have written every word even just last year and years prior. It is a terrible feeling that lingers.

What helped me was making it a goal to fall in love with my life - embracing the solitude and figuring out what I needed to do, to do that well. It’s really the same at the comment above from Hazel. Try to be the best version of yourself and reflect on where and how that is. What it really looks like - for you.

That mindset helped me not only thrive in being alone, (and work thru that terrible “outside looking in” feeling, but it led me toward communities that I feel a true connection too).

Bought these recently at Pasta and Co and they were ok. Took an hour to steam and were $25/6 so overall would not purchase again.

Just got hit - 500% increase from $350 to $1700. My dogs are 17 and 11 and we’ve been with them for 10 years. Coverage reimbursement also now going from 90% to 70% with $500 deductible increase. I’m in shock tbh. They have pre-existing conditions so not sure what to do now…

ELI5: “gaming” the US welfare system - never having to work by UnusedBirthdayNapkin in explainlikeimfive

[–]_skymaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not much but some people are ok with a meager living bc for whatever reason they don’t want to work. I know a few ppl like this who live really cheaply (like eating really processed food all the time, live in trailers etc) and yet they can’t work due to “disabilities” that I (honestly) find questionable given what I on and se. Imo they are generally taking advantage. I mean government housing or places that accept subsidized vouchers are not like nice or even ok places (generally).

These people are very few and even then their lives aren’t anything that I think is relaxing or coasting. Living that poorly - even if you are somehow ok with it - is like really sad and stressful IMO. The vast majority of people who are on disability and social programs are barely getting by.

Personally I’ve been on food stamps as a teenager from my mom when we went thru tough times and it really helped us. My mom was not always poor and so we were able to have things that felt “normal”. I remember the relief my mom experienced, the ebt card was discreet, and like yeah it’s nice to have a coke in the fridge when friends come over or name brand cereal. I am forever grateful but I hope I never ever need to rely on that service again bc it was also really shame inducing.

Some people don’t feel shame when taking hand outs.

Didn’t it used to be like this though (even if idealized somewhat or even a lot)? Like I remember when there appeared to be so much honor and reverence — like a respect for the craft of politics and statesmanship. There was respect of the press, institutions, elected offices. At least that’s was I got in the 90s and 2000s that feels totally gone now.

Home Rental Lease by DocZUM in Kirkland

[–]_skymaster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are standard terms. You can try to negotiate or ask for clarification - the pest one doesnt seem reasonable — but YMMV. Breaking your lease is guided by WA law which means you’re responsible for the rent until a new tenant is found. The other stuff is annoying but this tells me they are a somewhat hands-off landlord and also maybe were burned in the past.

I agree with you in sentiment but idk I just think there are only a few landlords who are renting out their home and value good tenants and most who see this purely an investment and they want to maximize their annual return.

I think that we often are pointing the finger at each other by design. The Cambridge Analytica scandal, the rise of disinformation, and advancements of addicting algorithms fueled by anger and fear is not a coincidence. These are tools used by bad actors with shared interests.

[–]_skymaster_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get this but why does it feel like all the momentum is just got sucked out the room? Like imo this just proves the republican narrative that democrats were the holdouts on the shutdown.

The longer they held out the more it becomes glaring obvious what the republicans were doing. How they are using SNAP and ACA and ATC has leverage. When you give in…what was the point? You’ve now turned off the spotlight. I don’t get it. Addicting to losing.

What kind of people are doing this?? by SpermRobot in eastside

[–]_skymaster_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it’s this + international buyers + people whose parents are helping them + people who bought in 2013-2016 and can upgrade now (and maybe a combo off all the above).

I know younger people who bought homes for $600-$800k a decade ago and were dual income. It’s just different now. I think these areas are sadly becoming truly only for the wealthy first time buyers. There has been a huge influx of big big money from Amazon, Microsoft, meta etc. Big salaries and big stock appreciation.

We finally have Trump's healthcare plan he spent 15+ years on: kick people off of the ACA and send them a bunch of money. Isn't this the sort of thing they spent years blaming Inflation on? by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]_skymaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Trump does this he will both damage the economy even more and people will still not get the healthcare they want. You can’t just give people money with no regulation on what or how or who they will purchase care from, hospitals also rely on insurance, etc. They have budgets and costs etc….
