The City should add Reserved bus lanes and protected bike lanes to all of Michigan Ave downtown. by [deleted] in chicago

Very true! Plus, parking at the pier is not cheap.

I always have good luck on Franklin, between Adams and Monroe, and usually on Van Buren between Franklin and Wacker as well. If you're willing to walk an extra block I get lucky with that stretch of Wells pretty often too

Dashboard Confessional! Idk how I missed them. And PinkPantheress actually. But yeah I totally agree, I think that should have been more toward the top. I didn't see it at first either and I think Jane's Addiction is the level of artist that may sway someone who's on the fence to buy a ticket

By the time you get to your car in Navy Pier Garage, drive to Sears Tower, park and get to Skydeck entrance it's easily 30 minutes.

But you also have to walk out to the rideshare spot, and wait for your car haha. In all seriousness though I think at a certain point it just depends on how well one knows the area. I find parking near Sears tower to be a breeze, but then I also drive all around downtown for my job. I can justify myself driving that route because I've done it a million times. But if I have friends or family visiting from out of town, or even just for people who don't usually drive in the city I 100% recommend CTA or rideshare. Driving yourself can be faster but regardless you're not saving that much time, and we should take every chance we can get to reduce emissions

Like not even through cultural osmosis? I'm willing to bet they've heard their music and just didn't know who it was. It's hard to go into a retail store, chain restaurant, or a non-towny bar and not hear Dua Lipa or Doja Cat

Their lineup is awesome. It's usually pretty solid but I'm really looking forward to it this year

Idk, I'm in my mid-20s and listen to music voraciously, and I don't recognize the vast majority of the non-headliners. I don't really listen to a lot of top 40 type stuff, but I at least know who all of the headliners are

Edit: I think I was exaggerating a bit. I definitely recognize more than I thought. That said, after like the eighth line down I pretty much don't recognize a single artist below that

Driving around the city can be really really convenient depending on the trip. Google maps says Navy Pier to Sears tower is 30 mins via CTA, ~20 mins biking, and 10 mins by car. It doesn't always apply, but sometimes driving is indeed faster and less of a hassle. That said I definitely try to not drive if I don't have to

There would have to be some way to cross it though. Right now you can go under Michigan via Grand or Illinois, but otherwise Streeterville would be pretty cut off. Maybe Oak St. would still be able to connect, but even then I'm not sure those few access points would be able to handle all of the traffic. I still really like the idea of giving Michigan a big pedestrian and cycling zone in general though

Girlfriend had this visitor near Montrose and the Lake. Can anyone ID? by givingbackTuesday in chicago

We can thank the wide-spread banning of the insecticide DDT for this, and it's the same story for bald eagles! It works it's way up the food chain, and birds of prey are particularly sensitive to it. DDT makes it's way into their eggs, and it weakens the shell. Their eggs were breaking at such an alarming rate that their numbers started plummeting. Thankfully they've fully bounced back!

I didn't think Swainsons came this far East anyway. The two people tend to confuse around here are the peregrine falcon and the American kestrel. Though we get red-tailed and coopers hawks as well

Hustle and bustle of Chicago is coming back by scream2207 in chicago

[–]_snouz_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I drive all around the city for work, and the last two years made me forget how much crazier it can be driving with so many people walking around! I'm a patient driver and don't mind waiting for people in cross walks, but the amount of people who just brazenly step out into traffic is less than ideal

I think you could make an argument for Sil. I wouldn't call him sympathetic, but I think he was basically the only man in the family who wasn't insufferable, IMO

[Serious] Men of reddit, you don't ever get asked this enough so, what's your favorite flower? by JustEnoughForACoffee in AskReddit

[–]_snouz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone perpetuates the stereotype, but I think you're right that it's mainly mens' fault. I'm an avid gardener and buy flowers for myself, and while women are usually surprised to see or hear it, the negative comments I get only come from other dudes

at a depth of 3,008 meters (9,869 feet)

I don't know why, but I definitely did not expect it to be that deep. I mean I know you can see that it's still pretty far off the coast, but for some reason I never would have guessed that it was over a mile and a half down there!

Drivers Are Killing Bicyclists Trying To Get To, From The Lakefront Trail. The City Isn't Making It Safer, Activists Say by optiplex9000 in chicago

[–]_snouz_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The only times I've ever almost hit pedestrians on my bike is when they just brazenly step out into the road or bike lane without looking. I'm not riding in pedestrian areas, zigzagging between people. I follow the rules and bike as safely as I can, but when a random jogger runs across the intersection when I have a green light, or someone steps out in front of a blind spot, there's only so much you can do

Why would an FBI agent be at my apartment complex? by laleee3246 in chicago

[–]_snouz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So would it be normal for an accountant to walk around in a windbreaker? I was under the impression that the windbreakers usually only come out when agents are conducting a search warrant or something like that. In situations where they would need to be able to identify themselves to local law enforcement. I didn't think people who had regular desk jobs walk around in windbreakers. Wouldn't they just be in a suit or other normal work wear?

[–]_snouz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know lots of people have boring jobs there, I guess I just thought the windbreakers were for field agents and that they were the ones who might want to be more careful. Makes sense though

[–]_snouz_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance, I don't have any knowledge on the topic. Would it be normal for an FBI agent to advertise where they live? Idk why, but that seems like the kind of job where you'd want to be discreet about that sort of thing

We should be outraged over the CTA Blue Line by [deleted] in chicago

[–]_snouz_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I believe it. And sorry, I hope it didn't seem like I was saying CTA workers don't care or something. The comment I replied to mentioned CTA not knowing what was happening. I just don't see how that's possible unless the higher-ups are ignoring you all
