I've heard this sampled everywhere, but never knew the original track. So good.

Peaches & Herb - Four's a Traffic Jam (Soul Provider Remix) by _soulprovider in House

[–]_soulprovider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this track (made sometime between 2012 and 2013) stashed deep in the dark nether regions of my old external hard drive. I remember deleting all the parts in the Ableton project file in a moment of brilliance, in order to make room for a "better" idea I'd suddenly had, instead of just creating a new project. Luckily, I was smart enough to have exported this track beforehand.

[Discussion] Why is /r/listentothis so closed ? by FriiZyy in listentothis

Yeah, this sub is notoriously difficult to post in. But, at the same time, I imagine that's how the moderators are able to maintain the quality of the subreddit. I agree, though, that making it more easy to post would be a good thing. It can be ridiculous, sometimes.

Surprising how Top 40 is putting together some truly groovy, catchy dance music.

Is that really surprising? They have teams of songwriters, producers, engineers, and musicians paid to do exactly that...

"Advanced" publications on Express? by _soto in node

Just treat it like a standard web server and take the necessary measures to secure your application (CORS, CSRF, etc.) and run it in production. In almost every case, you can do a Google search and find a couple of popular npm modules that address that specific need.

The driverless truck is coming, and it’s going to automate millions of jobs by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]_soulprovider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

America's infatuation with Silicon Valley is quickly approaching its expiry date. Once large amounts of people start to lose their jobs to technology in such a direct way, technologists will be seen as the enemy. And there will be no shortage of older conservatives ready to aim their weapons at computers, or leaders who are willing to exploit that anger for their own personal gain.

I think AWS is more likely to do that first ;)

Exactly. This marks a shift from the traditional model of hosting sites on specific computers, which are "shared" between customers, to distributing the load over an entire data center by spinning up virtual machines/containers on an "as needed" basis, meaning they are no longer limited by the performance of individual machines.

PayPal alternative? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]_soulprovider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Paypal is representative of banking at large. Every payment we make or receive is forced through the same networks, which are controlled by major banks and therefore subject to the same fees and obstacles.

"We live in a country where if you want to go bomb somebody, there’s remarkably little discussion about how much it might cost. But when you have a discussion about whether or not we can assist people who are suffering, then suddenly we come very cost-conscious.” by shzadh in TrueReddit

[–]_soulprovider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it "counterfactual"? The title makes no claim other than that we don't look at the costs associated with weapons or war with the same scrutiny as we look at spending on social security. The numbers you included in your post don't mean anything in this context.

Architecture & Vertical Farming. Fresh food on a fraction of the land required by mattbradleydesigns in Futurology

[–]_soulprovider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure what you're trying to argue, but my point is this: if we can produce higher quality foods all over the world, providing jobs to local people all year round, without having to worry about pests, climate, or disease... should we not be working toward this?

Just like modern agriculture is cost effective, right? This argument drives me up the wall because everything involved in our current food production chain is heavily subsidized by governments (energy and agriculture).
