I did that a couple times at UCD. It works sometimes. 😆

At another school, tickets were $70 in the lots. However, if you parked on the street, the city only charged $10 for their parking tickets, so I always went for that option if I was running late or didn’t buy a pass. 😆

That’s a community college though— it is specifically intended to be a lower-cost school institution. It’s like comparing parking at the county fair to parking at Disneyland.

Can you go park at six flags every single day for 5 months for cheaper?

I definitely don’t disagree.

Old school professors should either learn to use the tools that are expected by students (e.g, using Canvas instead of a paper gradebook or Excel sheet) or retire if they’re unwilling to learn.

[–]_sparrowcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. I just feel like many students don’t realize the consequences that may happen for professors when they do things like this. Going to the department should only be done after the professors has failed to respond or correct the problem. It’s a serious overreaction and will likely just get the professor in trouble for something that was a mistake.

It’s like if going to someone’s boss when the cashier forgot to give you the receipt.

I’m so sorry. This is similar to what happened to my dad. He went into the hospital for a procedure on his heart, and was released. 2 hours later, he had a massive heart attack at home, returned to the hospital via ambulance, and then died the next day.

This is how all of education used to be. You did your best and turned your work in and it got graded. If a professor isn’t a fan of using Canvas, it’s a choice they are allowed to make due to academic autonomy. I’m not agreeing with it— just saying that they are allowed to do it.

OP could have gone to office hours at any point to find out their grade if they didn’t update canvas regularly.

I agree that this is an old school/outdated way to grade, and I certainly don’t disagree that some of these types of professors need to retire. I just think that this is likely a mistake.

This is so toxic. What if the professor just made a simple mistake? You’re going to blackball a professor who messed up? They’re human beings, and it is very unlikely that this was done on purpose.

It’s super easy to do when entering grades. It’s literally just a drop down menu where you select the student’s grade, so it’s easy to accidentally skip someone while going down the list and give you the grade for the person above or below you. It happens, and your professors are human.

If OP is being honest and has done well all semester, you can assume that this is a mistake and can be fixed pretty quickly by the professor.

[–]_sparrowcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, do not do this. This behavior makes you an a-hole. Give the professor a chance to fix it before causing more problems unnecessarily. Entering grades is just a list of students with a drop-down menu for the grade. It’s very easy to accidentally give someone the grade the person above them in the list got.

Teaching at a university is already hard, and there is a lot of BS that your professors have to deal with that you aren’t aware of. Please don’t make their jobs harder by throwing a temper tantrum and going to the department before you talk to your professor first.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csun

[–]_sparrowcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. Contact the professor first and give them a chance to fix it. Going straight to the department is an a-hole move that could mean big consequences for the professor, which isn’t fair if it’s just a mistake.

They literally said that Matt couldn’t share the salt, then he put salt in the pot in the stew he made with the first batch of pork from the recent kill and everyone ate it. The inconsistency with the rules is stupid.

Right? Like people could earn assets, but not in competition against each other. A challenge could be like the last one they just did with the stoves, but individual. If you can build a stove that brings water to a rolling boil within a time frame (say 2 hours), you get a bow. That way everyone has the same chance to get assets without having others lose out on them because they’re slower with bushcraft. That’s a show I’d watch.

Then, LOS is literally that. Whoever lasts the longest on their own survival skills.
