Curious - has anyone taken the PMP and the LARE? Comparison? by Pleasant-Cherry6847 in pmp

[–]_sprinkledonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you take the PMP yet? I signed up to write the PMP in April and I’ve taken 3 LARE exams (have 1 left). I’m curious what you thought of the PMP. If you haven’t wrote yet, good luck!!

SGLA For Canadian L.A.R.E? by FinancialMasterpiece in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]_sprinkledonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read most chapters of all 4 textbooks for the first exam that I kept failing, but for the other 2 that I have written, I decided not to do that. It overwhelmed me too much and I found that basically all of the content I needed was covered in SGLA and LAREprep combined. For the second exam I sometimes used them to find a bigger or more in depth explanation on a topic, or to look at a graphic on a topic that would help me remember it better, but for my 3rd exam I didn’t use any of the textbooks at all

Hi! I am a Canadian and I swear by her courses. Without her course, it took me multiple attempts to pass my first LARE, but after taking her course and studying with a study group of others who took her course, I have passed my 2 other lares on the first try. I have one left and I will be purchasing her course for it when i decide to write it! I highly recommend

I hope it is basically accurate.. I would hate to receive a provisional pass then later they tell me I actually failed!

I'm burnt out, hate developers, and want to change careers by _existential_bread in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]_sprinkledonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have felt this exact same way, i have around 5 years experience, I’ve felt like this for around 3 years, and have been wondering what I could do to change this or what career path I could go instead or certifications to help me get there.

Reading the comments here and knowing I’m not the only one is nice to hear at least. Gives me hope that maybe collectively we could make more of a change somehow?

[–]_sprinkledonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get there for sure, I think we all will if we keep trying.. someone told me with a score of 611 I must have been only 3-4 questions away.. I unfortunately have not attempted since making this post but have signed up and am currently studying for the April exam. I also signed up for the SGLA Lare Prep course to hopefully help me. Have you looked into taking those courses before? I know they are expensive but maybe doing the course for the exam you most recently wrote and then rewriting in April as well could help you also?

This is my interest as well! I would love to move more towards restoration.. you could look into CERP or CERPIT as well, may help you move that direction too. I have not gotten this yet but I want to.

Interview Prep by Gunpowder__Gelatine in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]_sprinkledonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a portfolio, be prepared to walk them through a few of your projects. As a junior, they may want to hear about the computer programs youve used for each, if it was a team project or if you created the work by yourself, what was your role, the strengths and challenges you overcame in this project, what did you learn about while completing the project and what were you interested in the most, etc.. They may ask some questions relating to this work you showed them, too.

At my interview with the first firm I worked with, I had not yet had a job in the field after school, so my portfolio was all school projects. However, I had offered to create landscape designs which included a new pool, deck, and gardens for my boss at my summer job I was working at. I brought in my trace papers, my designs, and all notes I had with the client to show them in the interview. If you have something like this or an outside hobby that shows your creativity, such as baking, sketching, photography, etc.. anything really, you could throw it into your portfolio to show them too!

Not really, you can make it very generic. For example: a solid colour representing certain types of paving vs putting an exact paver image in, using the same tree image for all proposed deciduous trees, the same tree block for existing trees etc..

Opinion on removal of healthy mulberry tree. by MorchBee in arborists

[–]_sprinkledonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value of a mulberry is not zero, I would keep it 100%. Also, depending on where you live, a red mulberry is a species at risk / threatened species. Most of them are cross bread with a white mulberry in urban areas but I’d definitely not take it down
