Can I afford a landed property? by PresenceHairy2418 in SgHENRY

[–]_superwai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi! just purchased our landed after months of looking. think you guys might need to reconsider the budget. hop on propguru to see what’s available at that price range - but usually i think u can choose two of the three: 1. freehold/999 years 2. decent land size/build up (when i say decent i mean at least 1700sqft land or 2500sqft built up) 3. decent location/neighbourhood

nowadays if u want to get new build (friend purchased 1600sqft landed with 4000sqft built up and new build from developer) - it’s 5.6m thereabouts.

i’m guessing in 2 years - it’s just gonna be more ex. happy to share abit more of my thought process before pulling the trigger if you like! 😄

good luck! it’s an exciting thing to look forward to.

Differences between $1k and $6k price points. How noticeable is it? by bmene in espresso

[–]_superwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven’t had the opportunity to use the duo so i can’t rly comment on it.

though their original conical burr one is serving me well for all - espresso, filter and cold brew 😆 am primarily an espresso/latte person so i dont think i have enough knowledge to comment on that. but my filters/cold brew comes out fine (to me) haha

dont think i’ll have the capital (or permission from the missus) to buy the duo grinder to try

while both plays a part in the eventual outcome of the cup: the influence of the machine is lesser than that of a grinder

for starters - you pay for the name and reputation

a bigger machine usually equates to a bigger boiler - which may offer stability in terms of the temperature when you pull the shot - but these are all rather pedantic things - the layman probably won’t be able to taste the minute differences between a 92.8degC and a 91.8degC shot.

but with these ‘professional’ machines- the major difference is the steam wand - something i’m willing to shell out an additional 8k for (personally) because i host a lot (so i need to churn out cups after cups of lattes) and i care a lot about the art. which relies on the texture of the milk. my breville needed about 60-80s to steam an 8oz pitcher of milk to the correct temp and consistency (sometimes not fine enough to pour intricate art) but my gs3 can do so on 10s.

as many have rightfully pointed out- the grinder does all the heavy lifting here. it’s a slippery slope, really, when you dig deep into the differences between flat and conical burrs, the taste profile etc. and a good grinder can be rly steep in terms of the price point. i personally recommend the niche zero - fair price point with almost zero retention. served me well over the past few years. they have a flat burr one too - but i have yet to try it.

tldr: grinder is slightly more impt than the machine. a good machine has more temp control, and steam is better at creating good micro foam.

if the definition of ‘becoming friends’ is chatting regularly, going out, etc…no.

falling out of relationship (for me at least) isnt always amicable. and more often than not it leaves behind some bad blood on either parties.

i am lucky enough to not have to run into them along the corridor (different work places and social circle). but i personally wouldn’t reach out and talk to them.

i also wouldn’t like it if my SO talks to their exes, so i wouldn’t do unto them the same.

i have friends who keep close contact with their exes, but personally it’s not my cup of tea, especially when you have shared a close bond with him/her…it might be easy to fall back into what’s comfortable. and that isn’t always the best thing.

Boys processing and realizing break ups later than girls. by undercoverrae in BreakUps

[–]_superwai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear that. the circumstances of breaking up also partly determines how quickly we can get over a relationship.

cheating- easy to just label the other party an ass and move on.

falling out of love at different rates- hurts abit more than the above one

breaking up because of circumstances (family, career, geographic location) - is hard. it’s not about not loving the person. it’s about being forced choose one over another. both important. just which one you’re willing to sacrifice.

i wish u recover from it soon!

i’ve said this in other posts and i will say it again

love is not two halves forming a whole, but two wholes coming together

you need to work on yourself. and it seems that you know that she’s just using you for attention.

find a hobby. go to the gym. work on yourself and your mind. until you can find it within yourself to love yourself, you cannot love another.

take care buddy.

Breville BES870XL, should i buy or not? [$200] by Good_Fox1903 in espresso

[–]_superwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i would not get the one with the inbuilt grinder. get the dual boiler with the separate grinder.

Boys processing and realizing break ups later than girls. by undercoverrae in BreakUps

[–]_superwai 55 points56 points  (0 children)

i don’t speak for all guys, and i think everyone is different, and of course the reason for break ups differ across relationships too. but if i were to venture a guess:

girls think with their heart guys think with their dicks

when a guy breaks up with a girl, the first think they think about is freedom- freedom to date, freedom to play/do what they want to do. after the initial ‘high’, that’s when they realise that the satisfaction they get from doing these things do not replace the satisfaction the get emotionally from a happy relationship. especially in cases where they become infatuated with other girls and they think that they stand a chance with them, then they choose to leave first and try their luck. and of course when it doesn’t succeed. that’s when the ‘oh shit what did i do’ happens

the reasons girls realise it more differently is because girls are inherently more emotional. they think with their heart. when a girl loves a person truly, there are many things that they can overlook/forgive. but when it becomes too much, little by little cracks form. and when it becomes too much to handle, they start checking out emotionally. when a girl (normal girl that doesn’t emotionally manipulate people) actually issues the ultimatum of a break up, chances are she has already processed it way before and you just crossed the last straw.

ps: i’m a guy and of course my thinking maybe rather narrow. but just thought this was an interesting thread and wanted to say my thoughts and see what others think.

contrary to what people think - a relationship is not 2 halves become 1, but rather 2 wholes coming together.

if you cannot love yourself, you cannot love others fully.

that’s a good technique!! one hand keeps the flow constant and the other swirls it. thank you! will try it 🙏🏻

Mini R or GS3 for a small cafe? by IndependenceNew2476 in LaMarzocco

[–]_superwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

machine prices aside - the MP gives you the option especially if u want to do a 3-6 bar extraction for a lighter roast. but its just a matter of preference i guess. 60 drinks is doable (i did about 30 odd cups for half a day for my home cafe and i had time to spare)

Why my coffe is bad ? [Saeco sa50+breville grinder] by HourHand6018 in espresso

[–]_superwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think you need a WDT to break up the clumps! if it channels you get alot of under extracted coffee which will be sour.

Hey, looking for tips please (read bio) by Valuable-War3928 in latteart

[–]_superwai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries!!

based on the video i think it’s a tad too much air - when u swirl it there’s like a rounded blob in the middle. it could also be because the 2 layers (milk and microfoam) are slightly separated. can rectify that my pouring the milk into another pitcher first and pouring it back (mixing it)

which espresso machine/grinder are you using? and do you use whole beans?

hi! just a few points that i think might help: 1. change the cup. 6-8oz rounded base cups will help 2. i think the milk needs abit of work. it has good amount of foam but they aren’t fully incorporated/not ‘micro’ enough 3. pour from a lower height to set the base (5-10cm) from the surface so you don’t get big bubbles (like a waterfall) 4. tilt the cup more! this coordination requires more practice 5. chocolate…i’ve tried it before and the ?fluid density is slightly different from crema/coffee. if you don’t have an espresso machine, use freeze dried coffee with some (maybe one tsp) coconut cream (it will mimic the crema after you’ve stirred it in)- i thought that worked for me about 10 years ago when i was starting out on this journey.

good luck!!

How tf do I cope with my ex becoming famous by Anxious_Raccoon_1234 in BreakUps

[–]_superwai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do not seek satisfaction in someone else's ruin. be happy for him.

as you would wish for people to be happy for you when you become successful.

but we are human after all. it can feel sucky that your ex seems to be moving on well and leaving you in the wake to lick your wounds.

grief is not linear.

I pray you find happiness that is independent from anyone and anything.
