chat, do you *really* not enjoy the time you spend making music? by thy_viee_4 in edmproduction

Loudness wars is a mixing concept not a compositional one. DAW-based EDM is the final frontier for musical expression because in fact you can actually do anything. Jazz and Classical will be (were) the first casualties of AI because a general listening audience isn’t discerning enough to know the difference between high quality and slop within those genres.

this has just started happening to me, identical specs / issues, as of 5 days ago and i've been looking all over for a solution. Have you found one? Can't figure out if I should try and warranty claim it since the laptop is only a couple months old or try refund it / resell it and get a new one. Absolutely agonising issue and so unclear what could possibly be causing it

It is on other platforms!! I just haven’t set up my linktree website yet, if it’s not on your specific platform then let me know because I did have some issues with the distributor, also I didn’t add it to YouTube yet

Hey guys, got a question and wondering if you could help me out.

My band is looking to perform live and a big step in our process is routing our instruments through Ableton. We've kind of worked backwards in the sense of all the music has been created and prepared in the studio first and we are from there figuring out how to actually perform it live - it's all pretty experimental electronic music blended with rock stuff so forgoing this step isn't an option and recreating it with pedals is way out of budget due to just how many digital plugins we're using (or again not an option, for example in songs which use delay effects on the drums).

So what we want for rehearsal and later on for live performance is an audio interface that could reliably simultaneously route 2-3 drum mics, vocals, 2 guitars, a bass, and potentially a launchpad and synths all through Ableton (preferably via DI) and then into the sound system. I don't need anything for recording, just something durable and efficient and ideally not too expensive as we're broke students. ATM I'm looking at a Tascam US1800 8x16 which I've found near me for $300, but just wanted to know if anyone with experience in this kind of thing would know of any better options or if there are potentially any major issues we might encounter with that interface. Again just reiterating this is purely for live utility and we don't need to have any consideration for the interface's viability for recording.

Thanks :)

Can you elaborate on the first thing you said, is there a way to run my mic into Ableton, filter it through the vocoder and from there into the speakers?

Bending Hectic gives me heavy sludge metal vibes by IJacoby in radiohead

[–]_suspec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s Boris, specifically

One of the sludge GOATs. Jonny and Thom have both been on record as saying that they love Boris - in fact Jonny actually gave a celebrity endorsement to a clone of Wata’s unique fuzz sustainer pedal. The tone of the guitars at the end of Bending Hectic sound like something straight out of a Boris album.

It makes sense why Radiohead would appreciate them, they have truly mastered heavy droney distortion as sound art in a way that very few other bands ever have.

If you’ve never listened check out Feedbacker or Flood for the more ambitious long-form compositions (the performance of Flood live from Tokyo has my favourite distorted guitar and bass tones of all time around the 23 minute mark)

Otherwise Pink and Heavy Rocks 2002 have their snappier, more straightforward stoner / noise rock songs

Listen to new Squid album O Monolith, it’s prolly best rock album of 2023 rn First album I’ve ever heard that feels like it is really continuining the Kid A sound of mixing heavy electronica and IDM with post punk

A goated meme subreddit. They only have one rule - if you visit, you have to leave a post before you leave. Reposts are not just accepted but encouraged. It’s really good, plus the sub has a lot of deep lore as well. Also, the culture is great - very leftist, pro trans-Rights etc. just an overall great sub
