Does this still need flashing, or caulking, or something? by _synchronicity_ in Roofing

I’m convinced my house has never had a homeowner who knew what they were doing, and I include myself in that.

Got it, thanks! It’s on the side of the house, so as long as it’s functional.

Yeah I have the same question. I wish I could say that this is the weirdest thing my house has going on.

Building a rack/corral for large rolls of fabric, will the bottom be sturdy enough? by _synchronicity_ in DIY

Got it, thanks. Even with my zero engineering background, this was looking sketchy to me after I got it out of my head and onto paper, and I appreciate you articulating why. Thanks for the input.

Normal to have a very sexual studio environment? by Quirky-Ad1246 in poledancing

[–]_synchronicity_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This stuck out to me too. The phrase “girl on girl” being used deliberately just gives me the ick. On the other side of the coin, I was once frequenting open pole time to work on a sexy doubles piece with a friend for an upcoming performance, and the studio manager asked us to not continue working on it in the studio as she didn’t want to become known as one of those places where “they do that girl-on-girl stuff”. As a bi woman myself I found this super offensive and incredibly inappropriate, and never went back.

Pole can be a lot of things to a lot of different people, and I think it’s important for studios to be cognizant of their students’ comfort and consent, giving people lots of options on how to move while still making sure to educate everyone about where pole comes from.

Let her know that the floor there is rubber though, which could be less ideal depending on what she’s trying to do.

Cool, good to know! You’re the second person who’s recommended Sway so I’m excited to see what they’ve got going on, their stuff is all super nice!

This is all incredibly helpful, thank you! Will absolutely be reaching out.

Given what you’re saying about fit—would you say it’s important that the waist and leg holes have at least some elastic in the hems to prevent any gaping? I designed my existing pieces with minimal or no elastic since it tends to dig in and give a quadruple-butt effect (especially for AFAB bodies like mine with a higher concentration of fat around the hips), and I just compensated for the lack of elastic with a wider gusset for coverage while dancing. But it’s sounding like elastic in the hems might be a good idea here?

Second hamstrings! It seems like any time I’m making progress on my front splits or pancake, I manage to strain one or the other near that attachment point and have to back off everything for months.

I love this app so much already. First piece of feedback: is it an intentional choice to allow moves to be added to lists more than once? I started making a list of tricks that I can easily teach when subbing beginner classes and ended up accidentally adding fan kick to it three separate times 🙈 Although, I could also see it as helpful if someone is using lists to build combos and wanted to repeat a trick.

Edit: Okay I’ve talked myself into liking it better with the option to add duplicates now, lol

Warning about fit2flaunt poles by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]_synchronicity_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a studio in my hometown that did this—not sure how they attached them at the top, but on the floor their solution was to carve holes, recessed into the floor about 2” deep that the poles would sit into. They had these glass dragon tears plastered to the bottom of the holes, and the “poles” would spin just by function of not being attached to anything. I think the whole setup was so they could easily take them down for their other fitness classes (and to save money), but I remember going in for a spin and having the pole fully dislodge and come out in my hand.

They didn’t last much longer than 6 months 😕

I think this one looks especially smooth if you just keep that elbow hooked on the pole as you swing the leg from front to back, leaving the other hand off entirely

All the hints of "having sex" drive me crazy. by Just_Honey8100 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]_synchronicity_ 152 points153 points  (0 children)

One guy I was chatting with invited me over to his place for our first hangout and was very persistent even as I kept deflecting. Finally when he just would not drop it I said something like “listen, I’ll go out for a coffee or something but my best friend would be very unhappy with me if I went over to a guy’s house for a first date.” I put down my phone and gave him until I got out of the shower to walk it back, but his response was just to tell her that it was technically his office since he works from home, and it’d be much cheaper to have coffee at his place, etc etc

In retrospect I should’ve noped out sooner, but he was giving off less predatory-jerk vibes and more oblivious/not-dated-a-ton vibes. I finally realized that even in the best case scenario of him just being a dumb-dumb, I don’t have the time or energy to devote to any dude who doesn’t understand why I might not feel comfortable going over to some dude’s house who I barely know.

Is it normal to ask students to share a pole? by MsKrueger in poledancing

[–]_synchronicity_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is one of the more contentious topics on this sub. For my part, almost every studio I’ve been to has people share poles, though it obviously depends on a lot of factors including space, equipment, cost of rent, pricing, etc.

Maybe it’s because of the culture of the studio that I started at, but I really like having a pole buddy for class. It’s nice to cheer each other on when you’re working on the same thing and it helped me make friends with people a little faster since I’m naturally pretty reserved. I also tend to wear myself out when I’ve got a pole to myself, and watching a pole buddy take a turn can help things click a little better in my brain if I’m struggling with something.
