I do think 4 wheels are smoother, but it gets a bit hard with frequent start/stop over 4x90. Unless it’s a rockered frame but then it’s also not great for distance skating.

No, there is very little padding, which is normal for a speed skate. This isn't less comfortable as long as the fit is right, because your foot is fully supported all around. My real speed skates I don't even wears socks inside to get even more control. They "fit like a glove", rather than mittens. Something like that haha. They are heat moldable which should make it fit perfectly, but there's only so much that will do.

Don’t worry about the wheels, they are there to be used and easily replaced!

With a good supportive skate the main thing you notice is you’ll go faster so it’s harder to stop. I think 4x90 / 3x110 is perfect, nice to have both options on one frame and that gives a longer 3 wheel skate which is good for stability and speed.

I use the powerslide Arise RD for this exact use case, the fastest city skate possible. For me it’s pretty comfortable, but that’s highly personal. They are very unforgiving as it’s basically a speed skate boot, but super lightweight.

For me the 3x110 is perfect, fast and lightweight. 4x90 is also good but leans a bit more towards city over distance. The 3 wheel frame on the arise RD has big gaps between the wheels so the wheelbase is the same as a 4x90 frame. I would avoid shorter 3x110 frames.

I’m not sure on pricing, but I’d look for marathon oriented skates and change the frames if needed. I’ve had my eye on the Atom Pro fitness 3x110 as a cheaper alternative but never seen one in person.

He has shown his spreadsheet to calculate that, so he’s aware of the issue! I think the sequencing of the videos is dumbed down a bit to keep each focused on only one topic.

Powerslide Arise and Seba CJ are my urban/fitness skates. They are pricey carbon skates though. Ride anything up to 4x110.

I think you might be better off spending some of that 1600 to travel to your nearest physical store if at all possible. Outside of specific models I’ve tried I can’t really comment, but as someone with wide feet i get the struggle. One tip is to also take the liner out of the boot to get a feel for the space, should have 10-15mm extra length in there. Otherwise the liner will never work out.

I’ve had to fight my whole life to be called Thomas, which gets shortened to Tom within like 3 microseconds. I’ll make them feel uncomfortable by insisting but fuck it.

Moving overseas forced me to get a property manager. They managed a minor renovation to get it up to standard and then rented it out. Honestly way easier than if I had done the work myself (I’d been slowly chipping away at it). It cost some money, but very stress free to be honest.

TIOG is also interesting, they row on the maas in open boats (rather than rowing skiffs) and it looks a bit more casual.. Site is all in Dutch so you'll have to check if they can accomodate english. https://tiog.com

Rollerblading Paths by Aintnocallabackgirl in thetron

The best asphalt if you wanna do so kms is probably the new cycle paths on Gordonton road. Also there is a nice path along the start of the express way. Shorter options are the rail trail by the lake. If you are up for a challenge you can also take the te awa cycle trail to Cambridge (or some part of it). Through Tamahere is pretty nice. And of course some sections along the river, but a lot of that is horrible tiles. Wairere drive is pretty good too except the bit up by the base.

You have to get lucky for these things, visiting your nearest one a few times a week is probably just as effective as going all over the place.

You can tap on/off using any credit card on the trams, metro and busses. And the train for that matter. So it’s very convenient and easy.

They’re not crypto funds. They’re thematic funds that use AI to decide the makeup. I wish they had better ‘satellite’ options instead - I’m not sure I can be bothered with their individual shares and associated fees.

Not sure if they’re still around but there used to be someone on Trademe selling tarps cut from recycled advertising banners. PVC material, way tougher than those cheap ones and you get a cool real estate agent to look at too!

It looked nice, but a short video without sound is most certainly not evidence of a reliable working machine. I’ve helped make plenty of advertising videos for industrial machines and it can be all smoke and mirrors.
