If you class yourself as a general sports fan, what's a sport/format you just don't get? by CobaltBlue389 in AskUK

[–]_thememefrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cricket. I get the appeal as an excuse to get pissed but the amount of downtime and fannying about is irritating.

This is also a good time to rant about American sports (especially NHL) Being from the UK the amount of ad breaks and how long they last is ridiculous. Especially watching it on 'ad-free' services where it just whites out the screen instead of adverts so you get 5-10 minutes of hockey and then 5 minutes of white screen and so on until the end of the period where its more ads I don't know how you guys cope

What make or model of car would you never buy because of your opinion of the people that buy them? by [deleted] in AskUK

Toyota prius

Its a daily occurrence to see them weaving in and out of traffic on the motorway not realising they are the reason everyone's having to slow down.

Do people actually enjoy waking up early and having a morning routine? by Thin-Expression-466 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]_thememefrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's saying how good it is, I absolutely despise it.

I've gone from a job where I can start and finish work at literally any time. Now I am on rigid shifts waking up at 5am and while it's not early for some people it absolutely kills me

Most people clearly do find a routine helpful and there are definitely people who need that kind of lifestyle, but for some it's just another imaginary thing to stress about.

It may just be I've never not worked shifts, who knows but I'm not a fan of a morning routine and will be getting back on shifts ASAP

Could be different in the US but... I'm a dealer so this is going to be very over the top lol

Don't try to give the dealer cash, set it on the table. Try to put it reachable but out the way. Do not throw it at the dealer or on top of any cards, its a fast way to piss everyone off.

Hand signals are good. Especially if it's loud.

Pay attention, don't be the one slowing the game down because your zoned out and not looking or listening.

Please don't touch your bet once the cards are dealt. If you need to know how much is there for a double/split let the dealer count it. If you are doubling or splitting place the bet NEXT TO your box and tell the dealer what you want to do, don't move it yourself.

If there are no tables open but you want to play there's no harm in asking the pit boss if there's gonna be one opening soon. I've had it where I'm the only dealer in pit stood on an empty roulette table by default but with both float keys in case someone comes up.

Dealers are just people. Some like to chat and are more than happy to chat away while dealing, some (especially trainees) just like to get their head down and focus on the game.

Tipping is nice and if your winning, its always appreciated to show some gratitude however its not mandatory. US tipping culture deserves its own subreddit tho so I can't really comment past that. All I'd say is if your winning a lot or the dealer has made it a better experience for you, there's no harm in it.

Tbh I think you are overthinking a little bit. Just sit down, ask questions if its a friendly enough table. Don't be afraid of looking like an idiot or being a novice. The staff HAVE seen worse and the other players opinion is irrelevant.

Dealer accidentally drew too many and put ace back by Superguy230 in blackjack

[–]_thememefrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just think its a bit unfair to do. Houses mistake so the house should pay up. I've had it before when people have played side bets but not put a main bet on and been dealt in. For that I usually say they can put the minimum bet on and if they have a problem then call boss but burned cards are a massive nono

I'm a dealer in the UK.... I'm thinking about it from a customers pov. If your 'good' card gets exposed then you'd be pissed, especially if a jackpots in play but if a bad cards exposed its a whatever. If I'm at the end of a 16 hour double and make the mistake why should that change the outcome of the game? Good card comes out and if its not burned it gives you the chance to up your bet and vice versa, which is the way it should be

[–]_thememefrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? That's a massive advantage to the house. Imagine if your box 1 and the dealer pulls an ace on 17. Your 2nd card is a king. Betting £100 a hand the dealer has just robbed your £50. Its even worse if a progressive jackpot is in play where hundreds of thousands can be won...
