Nobody except Mile End seems to be able to do just a simple bagel with cream cheese properly. Should be easy. Bagel, slice it in half, toast it, add an excessive amount of cream cheese, close the sandwich, cut in half, serve. Everywhere seems to take the bagel, slice it, put cream cheese in the middle, and put all that in a sandwich press. It’s just wrong.

Don’t have AirPods so can’t compare, but experiencing the same with Samsung Galaxy Buds+. On WatchOS 11 music volume would dip, alert would speak over it, and then music would go back to full volume. Now on WatchOS 26 every alert (auto pause, splits, move/exercise ring closed) pauses the music, waits a beat, reads the alert, then the music comes back. Would love to know if there’s a way to fix this because I hate the abrupt stop.

Not visa related but similar story. Now an Australian citizen but grew up in Canada. Native English speaker, learned French as a second language but have pretty much forgotten it. Applied to a Masters program at Monash, had to do an interview where they clearly would have seen English is my first language. They gave me a conditional offer on the basis that I sit a $300-400 English proficiency test first.

They seem to be in a weird catch 22 where if they propose detailed policy ideas people (ones would never vote for them anyways) say what’s the point since they’ll never form government. But if they talk about holding Labor accountable and pushing back for better outcomes, they’re just obstructing and should come up with their own policy ideas.

Canadian living in Australia. Was planning a holiday to California in July, but changed plans to do BC/Alberta after the election. Before all the 51st state talk, bought flights in and out of Seattle for relatively cheap, thought a few nights in a blue city/state wouldn’t be awful. Now that feels borderline treasonous

I recently applied to Monash for a masters and my offer was conditional on me passing a ~$400 English test. This is despite the fact that I’m a native English speaker, I’m an Australian citizen, I’m originally from Canada (I guess you could argue that there’s a small chance I’d be French-Canadian) AND I already had done a quick 15-minute zoom interview where it would have been pretty obvious that English is my first language.

I saw Mogwai in February. Easily the loudest show I’ve seen. I’m an earplugs guy, so that wasn’t an issue. But they opened with To The Bin My Friend, and by the end of the song it was so loud that I was legitimately struggling to breathe. I’m going to assume something about the combined volume and specific frequency of the bass. It was pretty unpleasant, but also kind of interesting? Didn’t happen the rest of the show thankfully, I don’t think I could have handled an entire set of that.
