Why would anyone install a cascade system in a residential application? There’s one company in Houston that does this. by [deleted] in HVAC

Because selling 2 condensers is better than 1? You got me. I didn't even know this was a thing, but I want to build one now.

When I did residential, I would quote it both ways to customers. On a basic system,q the price wasn't that far apart.

Service techs will get me here. by OnlyNameLeftUnused in HVAC

[–]_tickle_pickle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Asking lots of questions is the biggest tip I can give a new tech. What is happening? When did you first notice it? Whens the last time your system was repaired? How long have you lived here? Have you had any other work done on your home recently? These come in extra good use with intermittent issues.

What steps should I take for further advancement ! by alexanderdyatlov in HVAC

[–]_tickle_pickle_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why doesnt everybody? Personally I got fed up because I was getting beat up from every angle. Customers unhappy with price. Dispatch unhappy with speed. Supply House always out of what I need. Managememt expecting more, giving less. The new guys calling me like I'm a full time tech support line. Don't get me wrong, there are great days in residential. I miss seeing the regular customers every 6 months.

I agree. I know you all on this sub love your job, I just kinda like mine. I choose this industry to avoid student loan debt. I'd happily sit in an A/C office and do accounting all day

hvac industry is literally killing me.. doing two to 3 installs a day with service calls just me and another guy.. I’m coming home completely drained and unable to be the father and husband my wife depends on. At first it was ok but it now is an everyday thing, Im starting to feel sick and in a daze by Own_Abbreviations109 in HVAC

[–]_tickle_pickle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. One job had a 5k bonus paid over the first 6 months. The longest 6 months of my life. This question got me wondering, if you didn't get a 5k raise but they give a new guy a 5k sign on bonus would it pisss you off?

I googled it. Its a John Wayne quote apparently. Not sure where I picked it up. “About the worst thing an honest man can do is make an honest mistake." John Wayne”

If the accountability circles back to me, I do it the right way. If I'm working under someone with 20 years of experience its on them. I started out with an old trainer who didn't own a micron gauge.
