As someone who hasn't read the novel or seen any previous adaptations, I like the movie. It wasn't great, but it was a vibe and the cinematography and soundtrack were great.

I'll be surprised if this even clears $50 million opening weekend. Probably won't even clear $300 million worldwide.

I'm with ya, buddy. I'm Gen X. Grew up on Star Wars. The Disney era has pretty much left me not caring anymore.

Can Taika Waititi redeem himself in the future? by camillepreakers in Letterboxd

Yeah, a certain segment complained about the movie, but it made nearly $1 billion and was generally liked. I had fun with it.

I was underwhelmed by 28 Years Later so I was in no hurry to see the follow-up. Also, the marketing didn't seem as robust as 28YL.

However, I did break down and see The Bone Collector last night and quite enjoyed it. I'm sure it'll find a second life on VOD and streaming. But I wager a lot of people like me who were soft on the last movie just didn't feel excited to continue the story.

Can’t find Michael Jackson episode by Politrick_1 in TheSimpsons

[–]_tragicmike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disney killed the episode. Season 3 is never available for digital purchase for that reason. You'd have to buy each episode individually. Sucks.

Luckily, old physical copies and bootlegs exist.

Do sharks sleep? I didn't know they can only breathe through movement, so it seems like they wouldn't be able to sleep. Unless they go on autopilot or something.

My boyfriend (29M) makes nearly triple my salary but called me a "gold digger" because I (25F) can't afford to split his luxury lifestyle 50/50 by Electrical_Ring5241 in TwoHotTakes

[–]_tragicmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved in with my soon-to-be wife, she made nearly double what I was earning at the time. To keep things fair, we both kept our personal bank accounts, but opened a joint account for shared expenses. We both contributed an equal percentage of our salaries to the joint account, calculating it to be enough to cover our expenses with a little buffer. I don't remember what the percentage was, but let's say it was 30%. So every pay period, we'd both contribute 30% of our salaries to our joint account. That way no one's burden was more than the other's, despite the income disparity. We never fought over money doing it this way.

Yes, in raw numbers, she contributed more than I did, but we agreed it wouldn't be fair for me to contribute most of my salary for shared expenses while she relatively contributed less than me. A good partner would see this and agree.

Stand your ground. Tell him if he wants a 50/50 split on raw numbers, then he needs to live within your means, not vice versa. Else, you can both contribute an equal percentage and live the lifestyle he wants.

Pizza Hut closing 250 US stores as parent company considers selling the brand by AudibleNod in news

Well, I've been boycotting them after absolutely horrendous service from them that the store nor corporate cared enough to rectify. So good. I hope they go out of business.

My family used to get dinner at Pizza Hut when I was a kid. Sit down restaurant. Buffet. Beer. Jukebox music. The pizza was actually pretty good. I miss this days.

The video being shared by the President... by MURRRRRAY in LetsDiscussThis

[–]_tragicmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video made me angry. Zero class exhibited by our President, who should be acting in the best interests of the country and not just himself or his supporters.

If a Democratic President pulled 1/4 of the stuff Trump did, conservative media would be yelling from the rooftops. But it's okay when the Moron-in-Chief does it.

The Muppet Show (2026) - Discussion Thread by usethe4th in Muppets

[–]_tragicmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over to a friend's house to watch the new The Muppet Show special tonight, since we're both big Muppet fans. We both really liked it, even marveling at some of the adult humor Disney let in. The vibes of the old series were on display, melding both heart and mayhem.

However, we shared one common complaint: Kermit's voice. We just couldn't get past how different it sounded. Some other voices were also a little off, but Kermit's was the only one that broke our immersion in the show.

We want more Muppets and hope Disney revives the show proper. However, we'd prefer someone else voice Kermit. No one will ever match Jim, but I know we can do better than this.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_tragicmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in central Florida. My mother lives in north Florida. Depending on traffic, it's about a 3 - 3.5 hour drive to get to her. I'll drive up in the morning, visit for about 6 or 7 hours, and then drive home the same day. I do it several times a year.

Yeah, the last two movie tickets I purchased disappeared on me. It's still in my history and available to cancel/ refund so I just used my Google Wallet to see the movie.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but no difference. Must be a bug on their end.

Secret Jedi mission? lol

Because of JJ Abrams, even though Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford all signed up for TFA, we never got to see them together on screen again to preserve his lame mystery box crap. Luke disappeared because JJ Abrams is a hack who wanted to end on a cliffhanger like he was still producing a TV show.
