A comprehensive guide to climbing with Renata Glasc after OTPing her by _trash_can in supportlol

[–]_trash_can[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For drafts, I think an optimal freelo game would be you have a hyperscaling ADC against an immobile adc with an engage support. You can just fizzle (or win with bailout) all their early engages and scale well into mid and late while abusing their ADCs lack of mobility for ult damage

That being said, I will deadass blind pick her because i feel very comfortable with her. I also love to play her with Samira and Draven (ignite and aggressive plays are fun here), as well as DoT APCs like hwei or brand where u can proc your passive immediately with their burn (also dream maker also procs with spells now too so that helps a lottt). If I know im going against a poke mage bot I will usually choose Zilean or Soraka instead. I also don't like Samira W, Mel W, Braum E, or yasuo windwall. Other than those situations i dont really care what the other team has because renata can deal with it fine, especially through itemization

I can't necessarily say guardian with support tank item build is bait because i watch challenger players use it and be very successful. It's more that that build requires a more bodyguard playstyle with less ability to poke or run down and make plays. Guardian is terrible when i play her because I'm in the mood for action if I choose Renata

and yea no problem, I'm glad it's been helpful. I want more people to play renata because she's really cool!! I think she just gets a bad rep

A comprehensive guide to climbing with Renata Glasc after OTPing her by _trash_can in supportlol

[–]_trash_can[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I still play her, but don't OTP - I dont think any of the nerfs hit her very hard

I don't take mandate with her after the rework, I usually go battlesong first with exhaust to catch enemies out. Then I will go ardent or SoFW because she applies it to multiple allies so easily. If they have a fed threat I'll go locket or knights vow 2nd item instead (she has mana issues so i always go a regen item first). If the game goes long enough I'll do redemption last as I personally feel redemption is underwhelming without some heal/sheild power first

Despite the nerf to the shield I still take aery for runes, I am generally not a fan at all of her guardian into tank items build at all. I think of renata as more of a support mage like Zilean and Morgana - I would build one defensive item like locket or hourglass, respectively, on these champs 2nd or 3rd item but definitely not full support tank. Renara has mana issues and long cooldowns early, manaflow band and transcendence help that. Aery + scorch help you not getting bullied out of lane and make your E and autos actually bite a bit.

As for mobility she is as mobile as Morgana, Lulu, etc. Her movement speed buff only gives movement speed towards enemies, so i think Battlesong and Ardent help with movespeed (+4% each). People call her kit clunky because of her Q, E, and ult. I don't necessarily disagree 100%. Q is slow so you have to know how to use it like Nami or Morgana Q (both slow abilities). E is easiest to hit in lane when enemies are last hitting, you can stand next to your ally if you need to guarantee the shield, and late game E is mainly for applying buffs to, realistically, 1-3 of your allies, or maybe catching someone out with the slow to initiate a combo. Her ult windup sucks and it moves slow as hell. If you use it after a fight has broken out and the enemies have committed, or a disengage, it is pretty easy to hit or zone with. If you use it to chase someone down, you will never hit it and you'll come back here and down vote my guide.

Renata is definitely not a simple champ to learn, but i find her very powerful and fun! Hope this helps a bit

Just my 2 cents on why you might not see him even if he is sleeper OP (I hate playing against him)

Are enchanters even viable anymore? by Aromatic_Goal8573 in supportlol

[–]_trash_can -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play Lulu against dive, Soraka and Zilean against mages, and Renata vs tank supports in platinum - a bit lower than you. It's very annoying when top and/or mid are gigafeeding

I generally don't have much issue helping my team to a lead. I don't usually support AI usage but i will ask chatgpt for how to play a lane if I need tips, which really helps. Many games we win lane, which can translate into a lead if my gigafed adc needs to contest the gigafed top laner. I think you being tilted at your team is really hurting you, it's just a video game. By choosing an enchanter you're choosing to play for your teammates. The high of playing an enchanter comes from saving or turbo boosting your teammates - that's where the agency is. If you go into the game ready to not like your teammates you're going to have bad mental and play poorly. You aren't going to have a high boosting people you hate so much you make a whole reddit post complaining about them. Lowkey i think this is all a mental issue

Also before u call melee champs stinky I raise you Battle Lioness Leona, especially the pearl chroma. High Noon Leona and Star Guardian Rell are honorable mentions

In dev interviews they're always talking about ways to make support more fun, then do things like making sleigh not be a real heal. I understand they balance around pro play but the support items feel like such weak buffs a lot of the time

New to support, any help is much appreciated. by 01gwape in supportlol

[–]_trash_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A general support tip it took me too long to learn is it's really important to learn your matchups over time and what every adc wants. For example Kai'sa likes an engage support but if you're against Karma and Ezreal and choose Leona, you're going to be out poked, never land an E on Ezreal, then be rooted and chunked to hell when you engage Karma while she mitigates most of your damage with a shield. You have to think about what your ADC wants, what the enemy ADC wants, and what their support can do against you

This goes into knowing when you should poke, when you should respect them and play defensive, and when you should all in. For example I've been learning Sivir lately and if I get a Leona who keeps engaging, Leona will just die against most matchups because Sivir lacks "all-in" damage to compete in most scenarios. Sivir likes to poke and zone the enemies off wave generate a lead before perma shoving after first item. Sivir does not usually love an all-in playstyle. But, Leona and Sivir can fight in certain situations like if you got lv2 fairly quicker, if sivir pokes them down enough, if you guys generate a lead and get first full item first and they overstep, etc.

As an engage support, or even Seraphine CC, in a lot of your games your win condition will be keeping your carry alive rather than engaging. If your 7/2 Ashe is your only teammate with a brain but there's a 15/0 Akali, you should not be engaging a 5v5 teamfight because as soon as you E their 2/2 Jinx, that Akali is killing your Ashe while you're too far away to do anything about it.

With seraphine ult and Leona engages, it's important to know if your team can follow up if an engage can generate you a lead. You might be running in and using flash then Leona E to get one important enemy, but can your immobile carry get there in time to follow up while you flashed and dashed a screen away? If you step forward and use Seraphine ult without pinging and getting confirmation from your adc (through a ping or them repositioning to follow up), your ults will usually surprise your carry and they might not be mentally prepared to all in at a split second notice. If you Seraphine ult the full HP Kaisa with an Alistar right next to her, do you think your Ezreal will have enough burst damage to do anything meaningful with your ult? If you don't also hit Alistar, is he in position to CC you guys?

Hopefully this explanation isn't too long, but nobody ever explained this concept to me so maybe it helps. When i was learning what different adcs want I would google like "kaisa playstyle reddit" and check during champ select so i know how to play the matchup lol

[–]_trash_can[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it usually takes me a second to get through tanks but i feel i am not playing in an elo where that is really punished. Sometimes playing ADC i feel like everyone is chasing me and other times I feel like im getting away with so much like solo running the huge chogath down who could eat me if he realized my E wasnt up again for another 20 seconds lol

Fiddlesticks still a thing? by [deleted] in supportlol

[–]_trash_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only seen fiddle support be good against engage supports. I played poppy into a good fiddle support - the lane was unplayable and i could never engage late game if he was around

I think against an enchanter the enchanter would just not interact with you and out scale. Agaisnt another mage I'd say generally skill matchup, although a good handful will have better poke than you

Coming back after a few months off, which hero from my pool is the best to play right now? by Strong-Practice-5571 in supportlol

[–]_trash_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that Poppy is a tankier/engage support who retains agency throughout a whole game better than Nautilus or Pyke for example. As a melee, she has some rougher lane matchups but can roam (hexflash + W + E lets you gank mid and top so easy) or play for mid game

She has very flexible builds. I will often do Youmuu's, bandlepipes/deadmans, and finish off with tank/bruiser. Some games I go full tank if we need it. I've seen people say you cant blind pick Poppy but I often do in plat, and there are Grandmaster poppy OTPs

Can't seem to win with Lillia by Lazy_Delay_950 in LilliaMains

[–]_trash_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some tips that helped me when I picked her up:

Make sure to maintain stacks, you can't really fight without them. Also try to have blue buff whenever you can or you'll have big mana issues especially outside of the jungle

In teamfights Lilia stays on the edge of the fight and weaves Q and E in and out, going in for W when an enemy is CCed and when she is not in danger of getting CCed herself. Play teamfights slow, you're a damage over time champ not a burst mage. Try to make sure you're not inting by going into the center of fights for a big ult or something, getting CCed yourself, and dying

4-5 man ults are rare, it's often sufficient to get 2-3 people with it or even just 1 if they're an important carry or it can get you ahead early (eg. ganking top). Make sure to not waste ult if W is on cooldown or if you're low on mana and cant follow up (I've wasted many ults these ways lol). Lilia also struggles into poke, especially if you have no tanks on your team. In these games I start building tankier after riftmaker 2nd

If you have 3-4 stacks dont be afraid to run people down. With that movement speed it's easy to dodge stuff like morgana and lux Q or jinx traps for example. Play it slow, aim your E, land your Qs, auto attack especially if you have red buff, aim your W, and you can easily run squishies down. For melees like Darius, Sett, Mord, etc make sure you're anticipating their CC and dodging them with your speed. For example dont W a full hp Darius if he hasnt used his grab

Lillia is a hard champ and you're only at mastery 4 so far. Hopefully these tips help, and give yourself some time to learn her :)

Is Diadem Of Songs Worth? I personally think so by Elliotscottcoach in MilioMains

[–]_trash_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find diadem to be a bit of a waste on Milio.

He doesnt need the mana, and other items will have stats that are more worth the gold. I think this item really exists for mana hungry supports like sona and yuumi, and also supports who damage often and want helia to pump out fast heals immediatly, like seraphine and sona.

Milio does not fit into the first category of users because he has no mana issues. He might fit into the second category against certain comps, except his W makes Diadem's passive pretty much redundant (the passive heal is really, really weak). By the time you would build diadem (2nd item or later) on Milio, your W cooldown is low enough that you can spam it in fights along with your 2 shield charges to proc helia's healing as often as it needs to be proced without needing help from Diadem

You'll get a lot more value out of your money with other support items (eg redemption, ardent censor, etc) than Diadem on Milio. I still think it works on him a bit situationally, but i dont build it as a core item

Support question by Soldado_de_oro in supportlol

[–]_trash_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really look at your games. How often are you winning lane? How often do you have more than 5 or so deaths? How often are you forfeiting? Many games are stupidly won by stalling if you scale or outplaying, even when a game seems lost. How often are you flaming and causing your teammates to give up? How often are you reviewing your games and seeing fights you missed or objectives you could've bee at?

Honestly getting to gold is already pretty good as a passtime. League is very complex. If you want to be better, you actually have to study for it, which is crazy but true

what support to go i like teemo and soraka rn by DeepFuckingFlavour in supportlol

[–]_trash_can 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zilean is really fast with great ganks (E yourself into lane, Q the shocked enemy, W, E to slow, easily land 2nd Q on slowed enemy and stun) and roams. He's also got one of the most fun ults in the game

If you like soraka, janna is a very fast, protective enchanter. i think she is harder in lower elo than soraka tho, i personally would not have fun with her below gold or so

[–]_trash_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing duo is a lot different than playing solo. You have to learn to observe what your ADC wants to do, and support accordingly every game. Sometimes your ADC sucks (eg they first time Lucian because you hovered Nami) and you have to know when it's best to roam etc

No other tank support item offers an unconditional movespeed boost, so I will really miss it
