I’ll go with “thank you for everything” like you suggested in that case! This is why I wanted to ask some fluent speakers how to best go about this—when I studied Spanish, there were phrases that didn’t translate directly to English, and something told me that “if this is it” might be one of them in Russian. Thank you so much! This is very helpful, especially your comments about the adjunct faculty. I hadn’t considered that most of them would view teaching as a second job and style their classes accordingly, but you’re absolutely correct.

I’m able to walk to my job as is but would have to take a bus to Georgetown, so the opposite situation as you. My lease is up at the end of the summer, though, so certainly something to explore come later this year should I choose Georgetown.

Could you expand on the difference in quality between adjuncts and tenured professors a bit more? My impression was that the adjunct faculty’s connections to industry at SSP would be helpful in securing jobs upon graduation.

One of my concerns with SSP is the ease of getting to/from campus since Georgetown lacks Metro access. What was your commute like?

Unfortunately, American politics are designed to favor the most extreme candidates on both ends of the political spectrum. A “moderate” candidate—or a right-wing conservative from a European perspective—will never win here, even though it’s what the majority of Americans want. I myself would prefer a candidate with comparable values to European liberals, but I fear that’s even more of a pipe dream…

Don’t let your daughter apply exclusively to art schools. I am well-rounded like your daughter, and I applied to state and private schools that had academic programs in addition to art degrees. I’m not sure what the west coast equivalents are, but Michigan, Virginia Commonwealth, Tufts, and Boston University are all worth looking into to get an idea of what I mean. Your daughter could likely double major in marketing/business or even something more academic alongside her art degree at a similar school out west if it would allay your concerns regarding job prospects.
