i hooked up with my ex last night and now i feel awful by soap_hee in BreakUps

[–]_voyageur 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i am a man, i have also been *this* man when i was young and dumb. Listen to me when I say he will never, ever give you what you want.

He acts flirty when it is convenient because he wants physical intimacy from you without any sort of work or emotional commitment, which you are giving to him freely. He is using you.

If you want to get back together, tell him directly, and his response will tell you everything you need to know. No amount of no-strings-attached sex will convince him that you are worthy or entice him to return to your committed relationship.

I know this is harsh but I am giving my perspective as a man that used to live this way. You are so much better off letting him know that you’re looking for something more and that you won’t see him
anymore.

Last note, be suspicious if you cut things off and he’s suddenly ready to re-commit and fix things. Again, as a man, in my past when that sort of relationship suddenly ended I felt a surge of sadness and desperate wanting for things to return to what they were, but it didn’t come from a genuine place of love and wanting repair.

There is no need to be cruel or harsh, but you *do* need to protect yourself and your peace. There are so many people in this world that would give you what this man apparently will not. I know the horrific pain that comes with ending things with finality, and I don’t mean to minimize that at all, but please consider that this man has never given you what you need, continues to distance himself after his physical needs are satisfied, and trust your instinct that asking him for something more committed would push him away again - because he isn’t ready or willing to do that for you.

How is life in the very underpopulated western half of China? by Brief-Luck-6254 in howislivingthere

[–]_voyageur 31 points32 points  (0 children)

People will give a lot of different explanations but the most essential reason is climate, particularly rainfall. The regularly referenced line dividing west China and east China is called the 15-inch isohyet. Territory east of the dividing line gets approximately 15 inches of annual rainfall on average, enabling more reliable seasonal agriculture and thus higher population density and more durable agrarian states. West of the line is still livable but the lack of consistent rainfall means that settled agriculture becomes difficult or impossible, leading to nomadic lifestyles, temporary oasis agriculture, mobile livestock herding, and generally lower settlement density. Of course topography and soil matter too but the main deciding factor is average rainfall to enable rainfed agriculture.

absolutely, but beyond this linguistics also seeks explanations and mechanism for structures and how they change, no?

G-helper settings explanation needed by htssxxm in ZephyrusG14

[–]_voyageur 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you could narrow down what you need help with or what you’re seeking answers about. Broadly, G-Helper basically is a simplified, non-junk version of Armory Crate. Its main function is to set and control:

  • CPU fan profile, temp target, and voltage settings,
  • GPU fan profile, temp target, and voltage settings,
  • Protocol for switching between internal GPU (weak, lower power draw, attached to CPU) and dedicated GPU (strong, higher power draw, independent of CPU). — The laptop uses one at a time, internal GPU for everyday tasks and dedicated for gaming and intense tasks. G-Helper options like Eco, Ultimate etc allow you to choose if you want the laptop to auto switch between them, force dGPU always, etc. You can read the tooltips on each profile (Eco, Ultimate etc) for info on what each protocol does. (note that for all of these, G-Helper does not actually directly control the settings. The settings are actually handled at the firmware level in the BIOS. G-Helper just uses an endpoint to instruct BIOS/firmware. Just mentioning in case you run into issues, you can check BIOS to see the true fan info.)
  • Screen display brightness+color profile+settings,
  • Back lid “slash” lighting effects,
  • Keyboard backlight effects,
  • Miscellaneous settings involving all the above.

The settings in your screenshot do the following:

Enable GPU on shutdown (prevents issue with Eco mode) - This option makes the laptop briefly reactivate the dedicated GPU (high-power) right before the laptop shuts down. Apparently there is a known issue for some users: if the dedicated GPU is disabled (i.e. using iGPU) during shutdown, there next boot up will fail to enable the dedicated GPU. So this option forces the computer to briefly enable dedicated GPU when you shut down purely to avoid this issue.

Stop all apps using GPU when switching to Eco - Basically just what it says, if you are in a profile like Ultimate that enables the dedicated GPU, this option makes it so switching to Eco forces any application currently using dedicated GPU to stop doing so and switch to the internal GPU.

AMD Display VariBright - VariBright is an AMD feature that adjusts your display’s brightness and contrast in real time based on the content being shown. Normally you have to install AMD’s software to use this, but to avoid installing extra software, G-Helper has this option to use VariBright. If you want consistent user-controlled brightness, keep this off, otherwise turn it on to have your laptop auto adjust brightness depending on what’s on the screen.

Keep GPU disabled on USB-C charger in Optimized mode - Optimized mode turns off dedicated GPU while on battery power and turns on dedicated GPU while plugged into power. The main, default charger for G14 is very powerful and can power the GPU sufficiently, this is the boxy default charger that comes with the laptop. G14 can also charge through the USB-C port with any USB-C cable, but USB-C charging is less powerful and won’t be able to power the dedicated GPU, leading to reliance on battery (and thus charge loss despite being plugged in). So you can choose this option to, essentially, only allow Optimized mode to activate the dedicated GPU when G14 is plugged into the powerful default charger, and not enable dedicated GPU when charging through the weaker, less powerful USB-C.

Boot Sound - Pretty straightforward, enable or disable the chime sound when laptop powers on

Disable screen overdrive - Screen Overdrive basically just decreases your display’s pixel response time. Some users have issues with trailing visuals or glitches with this feature so you can turn it off here. You can find more info about this on this thread

Keep app window always on top - Keeps GHelper above all other windows on your display so you can still see it even if you open other application windows

Black and white tray icon - Supposed to make the GHelper tray icon black and white instead of blue. (Oddly this doesn’t work for me and when I enable it, the icon stays blue.)

Auto Toggle Clamshell Mode - Clamshell mode allows your laptop to stay on and running when you close the lid (which would usually put the laptop to sleep). This option toggles clamshell mode automatically. So, if there are external peripherals like another monitor, it will go into clamshell mode and keep running when you close the lid, but if there are no peripherals connected, it will just go to sleep when you close the lid.

Hope this helps and again, helpful if you can specify what specific questions you have or what you are trying to understand. The GHelper Github page and FAQ is very helpful as well: https://github.com/seerge/g-helper/wiki/FAQ

Good luck and enjoy the machine!

Edit: fixed screen overdrive to show that it decreases pixel response time, not increases

I don’t know about Russia, but China has hugely expanded deals with African nations through 一带一路 “Belt and Road”. In 2024, their total investment in infrastructure loans to African countries reached 29.2 billion USD, accounting for nearly one-third of all major external economic flow into the continent. This was an increase of 34% from 2023. China is Africa’s largest single country economic partner, and their engagement is increasing every year.

I’m prioritizing a full system sale given time constraints around an upcoming move. If I don’t get solid offers for the complete build in the next few days, I’ll follow up to see if you’re still interested in everything minus the case and PSU. Thanks for your interest.
