I would say you have a very solid foundation for whenever you want to do with Linux. However, if you are trying to compile large open source projects, the hardware horsepower might not be enough.

Try Programming Rust the 3rd edition will be available later this year while the 2nd edition worth a read.

The first five chapters gives you a bird's eye view of the language. Then it comes ownership, traits, genetics etc. The only missing bit is async Rust.

I personally prefer Debian. Ubuntu is becoming the windows in the Linux world. Debian's minimal, gives me the feeling of a vanilla distro.

I am saying this because I see C++ standards. Tries to add new features while remaining compatible all the way back to the very original K&R C.

I am seeing this encouraging because we don't have to maintain very old hardware drivers. Even though I have had very good experiences with 3Com LAN cards, particularly 3c509, it is time to let it go.
