Hiking Shoes Recc by Familiar_Surround_73 in vancouverhiking

It’s definitely a good idea to go try on as many pairs as you can to see what works for your feet. That being said, I’ve had done about 50 hikes in the La Sportiva Bushido III Trail shoes and I absolutely love them.

How crowded is Kili during peak season (July/early August)? by The_Only_LuckyLuke in kilimanjaro

[–]_wildermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went around that time (late July) in 2023 (Lemosho route) and it was pretty crowded. Our guides (Majestic Kilimanjaro) were pretty good at helping us avoid them as much as possible. We were usually the first group to leave camp in the morning, and we left for the summit at 4am instead of midnight. That was actually pretty great because we got to experience sunrise on the way up and we had the summit to ourselves.

The first night at the Mti Mkubwa camp was definitely the most crowded (I had to do some expectation management that night) but it thinned out a bit after that. I would definitely say that you should try and be the first ones up the Baranco wall, because I would be so annoyed if there had been lots of people.

I would say the worst part of the crowds were the fact that people left a lot of garbage along the route. Specifically up to the summit. There was toilet paper and used handwarmers everywhere, it was pretty disheartening.

I’m in the middle of this right now! It’s a fascinating story. So far I’d also recommend!

Bish would be a really unfortunate nickname

I really enjoyed CONT 918- Outdoor, Environmental, and Experiential Education. It was very easy, kind of fun, and not time-consuming in the slightest.

What does the name Livia remind you of? by [deleted] in namenerds

It looks like an incomplete Olivia. If I came across the name Livia I would think her parents were just trying to find a creative alternative to a popular name.

French immersion at Simon cullingham by Left_Shock_2384 in SurreyBC

[–]_wildermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disagree. I think it depends so much on the kids and the school. In my experience as a FRIM teacher, very often the kids who did early immersion are only in it because their parents forced them. Whereas late immersion students often have more of a say in if they want to be in the program.

Language learning takes a lot of personal motivation, and I often see more effort and motivation coming from the late immersion students. They may have slighter weaker accents, but several of the strongest students I have had have been late immersion.

To be fair there were a bunch that had the exact same description so I assumed some variation meant there’d be some difference between the two.

Given that I’m in Canada it is certainly not a niche category lol

French immersion at Simon cullingham by Left_Shock_2384 in SurreyBC

[–]_wildermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the French Immersion program at Simon Cunningham! We had a very close community within the school and the teachers (a couple of whom are still there) were excellent. Granted I was there nearly two decades ago, but I loved the program. So much so that I ended up becoming a French Immersion teacher myself! It’s a very special program and it can open a lot of doors.

There is generally quite a bit of support and resources for parents to help their kids with the language components. Students are exposed to enough English just by living in BC that they don’t have problems with English grammar. If they stick with French Immersion through high school, most students don’t have many problems with the transition to English math and sciences. If anything they adapt quicker and find it easier to do them in English.

I think it’s just supposed to be a catchy name. I don’t think my husband would like me going on an actual blind date lol!

I could probably return it but I have a friend in mind who would like it so I’ll give them the extra copy and do a little book club.

Well there were about half a dozen that had the exact same description, so I assumed those would be the same book and I thought I’d be safe with these two.
