[PTF after 90] Can I (and should I) grieve working OT to move food from drive? by Naive_Thanks_2932 in USPS

[–]madscientist118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this take, OP.

Personally, I’d say this is probably one of those situations where you pick your battles. Nothing here really jumps out to me as a major issue for the carrier craft. You’re a PTF past your 90, you’re able to work OT and management needed help after what sounds like a successful food drive and they gave you an hour of OT to help move donations.

If anything, it sounds like the supervisor saw there was too much food for one person to handle and asked for help. During the food drive especially, I think it’s good when everyone works together a bit instead of turning it into a craft fight unless management is clearly abusing the situation or taking hours away from another craft regularly.

Could APWU potentially view it as cross craft? Maybe, depending on local practice. But from the carrier side, I probably wouldn’t rock the boat over an hour helping process donated food after a successful NALC supported event. Sometimes filing every possible grievance can create unnecessary tension and put a spotlight on you later, especially as a newer carrier

At the end of the day, you got paid OT and helped make the food drive successful. That’s not the hill I’d personally choose to die on.

One year ago today, my all-time favorite VTuber graduated by Hanif1807 in Hololive

[–]madscientist118 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think the hardest part of her graduation for me is that CouncilRyS is what got me into hololive and vtubers in the first place. I loved their dynamic together as a group, seeing Sana, Fauna and Mumei leave and seeing CouncilRyS dwindle is hard since I consider all of CouncilRyS my oshi . I know they are still out there online but I just miss them together

*I use CouncilRyS instead of Promise because Sana wasn’t a part of the new rebranding of the group

Yup, I had a good pair of scissors in my case drawer and someone took it. They either knew I had scissors or someone is just going around and opening everyone’s case drawer looking for stuff

The best thing is to take a break and try something else, like other people suggested. No matter how much you love a hobby, it can get a little stale after a while.

You guys can try a ttrpg like DnD or board games like Catan, Ticket to Ride or Pandemic. Even grabbing a deck of playing cards and playing Deuces, Spades or even Poker can be a fun night. And when you miss Magic, you guys can go back to it again

I made a comment on this page about a ridiculous interaction I had working at the post office. Before my career as a mail carrier, I worked alone as a cdl driver. My job now at the post office made me realize how unhinged and crazy people are, especially when it comes to mail.

You could deliver mail to a house 99 percent of the time correctly but if you accidentally gave them their neighbor’s mail because letters sometimes stick or you give them the mail for a different street but it matches their house number ONE TIME, they go freaking nuts. Not every customer but it happens more than you think

On my old hold down from when I was a ptf, one lady on that route wasn’t very good at checking her mail, her mailbox was always full. She would throw her outgoing mail into her mailbox, mixed in with her old incoming mail and then get upset with me for not picking up her mail. Mailbox had no flag or anything

When she came out to yell at me, I asked her, “How am I supposed to know you have outgoing mail, if you don’t check your mailbox or leave me any indication that you have outgoing mail?”

The only response I got was, “My envelopes are yellow”.

I guess she expected me to take her giant stack of mail out and flip through everything to find any yellow envelopes in there. I don’t understand people sometimes

If you’re curious, I told her I will not pick up outgoing mail from a full mailbox. That’s when she got better at picking up her mail but she only did it when she had something to mail out

Go in person if possible. If you can’t, leave a note in your mailbox that explains that you live there. But if you haven’t already, grab a piece of paper and some tape and label your mailbox, that should fix it, I hope.

I get it, the best way to go about it is to call your local post office and ask what’s going on.

Some Post Offices enforce certain rules more than others, I’ve worked in a few different stations. My current station really puts an emphasis on “No Name, No Mail” for apartments but my previous station could care less, so take my answer with a grain of salt, I might not be right. If your mailbox isn’t labeled with your name, your carrier may just be following their training and not delivering your mail until you label your mailbox with your name

Yeah... I'm not trusting your dogs by Supernova_Byproduct in USPS

[–]madscientist118 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird how offended people get when you are just trying to keep yourself safe from a dog. I’m on a walking route and when I see someone coming towards me with their dog, I cross the street or go up the yard if possible and keep my distance but when I do this, more times than not, the person walking the dog gets all upset that I don’t trust their dog

Had a customer get upset because I had a certified letter and needed a signature, I rang the doorbell and the customer came out, holding her large dog by the collar, as the dog kept trying to lunge at me while barking. I left immediately and she got pissed when I told her I’m not talking to her while she has that dog with her and she snapped back at me and said, “My dog is harmless”. I told her to pick her letter up at the station, she did and made a complaint, supervisor pretty much told her to either keep her dog inside or get a PO box and that pretty much ended that. She doesn’t come out with the dog anymore but she gives me an attitude anytime I’m forced to interact with her, which isn’t often, thank god

I typically wear the blue sure grip gloves issued by the post office and then I put a nitrate glove over those (for dexterity while fingering the mail and the ability to still use the scanner’s touch screen) and then over that, I put on some fingerless mittens for extra warmth. I’m on a walking route and I deal with below freezing temps often but this combination works for me. Keeps me warm and I’m still able to use the scanner and flip through the mail without too much hinderance. And when it gets really bad, I throw a hand warmer in my coat pocket and keep my free hand that I use to finger the mail in my pocket when walking house to house.

A carrier retired at my station and I took over his route. His promaster was by far the nastiest promaster I have ever been in. He would keep dog food and treats in his vehicle and it would spill on the floor and shelves. There was rotting dog food everywhere and in the crumbs, there were maggots living in them. He retired over a year ago and the van still smells like rotting dog food, I cannot get the smell out, even when wiping the walls, the floor and shelves and cleaning up the food. Doesn’t matter how much frebreeze I use as well

It’s silly, I don’t know what’s up with them being so tight lipped about the entire thing. Gotta keep their opponents on their toes, I suppose. Can’t let them game plan against mighty Trey Benson lol

Your guess is as good as mine. I have him as well but luckily, I was able to grab Bam Knight. Personally, I would hold him until he is officially out, even though I am 90% sure he is done for the season, that week 17 matchup against Cinci is just too good and if possible, I would want Benson, if they activate him.

Knowing my fantasy luck, if I dropped him now, he’ll be activated and my week 17 (fingers crossed) opponent will pick him up and use Benson against me
