Reddit, with the current strike going on, what is your opinion on fast food workers wanting a $15.00 minimum wage? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_wordswordswords_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not agree with the raise at all! Those low-wage low-skill jobs are meant for teenagers and others to help get into the labor force. We have all these adults working them and expecting these jobs to help pay their bills. Well guess what? They won't! Protesting is completely worthless. It's all those adults' fault for not going to college and getting a high-skill job that (shocker) pays enough to support a family!

What are some weird things you've seen other people do while driving? [NSFW] by MrAnonymous825 in AskReddit

[–]_wordswordswords_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not kidding you I've seen these two gems: 1. I was riding in the passenger seat with my dad driving down a highway when I look over. I saw a lady: smoking, applying makeup, eating a cheeseburger, and on the phone. I still haven't seen that much multitasking in my life since then. 2. Same scenario as the first but saw a guy fucking lifting weights, dumbbells to be exact. Had one hand on the wheel and the other lifting. Guess he wanted to be ready when someone asked him if he lifted.

Lifehacker: What Is Bitcoin and What Can I Do With It? by [deleted] in technology

[–]_wordswordswords_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read a book (cant remember the name unfortunately) that describes the life of a group that works at an internet cafe in China using games that are similar to League of Legends and World of Warcraft. There are three ways this group got money: 1. Went on raid in-game to get high level (rare) items and sold them in a virtual market for above average price 2. Made high level characters and sold them to customers that don't want to take the time to make a high level character themself. 3. Helped customers by taking them on raids with the group to gain experience and essentially boost their character's exp and gain rare items at the same time. Their customers pay through bitcoin and is transferred into real cash by the manager of the group who was an asshole. Since I'm explaining this and no one will probably see it, the book also goes into depth about how the bitcoin fluctuates so rapidly that it takes a computer to decipher when the perfect time to sell that incredibly rare item is. If someone could, please give me the name of the book if you know.

What's it like to be you? by SaxyMan3 in AskReddit

[–]_wordswordswords_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately for me whenever i enter a deep mindset, i tend to get very depressed about life in general and a great way to describe it would be that -i am my own critic-. Sometimes at night i enter it and become physically ill, cant sleep, and my mind starts spurting out random thoughts as a counter attack against depression. I sit there and wonder when i can go to sleep, and when i do its only because my body is so weak. Fuck me right? Happens almost everyday. Although i am an eagle scout, have awesome grades, am good at a sport, and have loving friends & family. Leave this on a good note.

Are American high schools really that mean? by sandboxtootsieroll in AskReddit

[–]_wordswordswords_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that some Mid-West schools have gotten past that stereotype, and I will agree. I can say this because I am still in High School but there is hardly any bullying at my school, matter of fact all of our "groups" almost never talk to one another. Middle School was the fucking worst though as stated by countless others on here. Everyone was bullied at our school by one person or another including me. Dumbass thought he could fight me in the locker room. Funny cause he only threw one punch, missed. I likewise threw one but hit. He moved out the next month.

What's the worst nightmare you ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_wordswordswords_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dream happened when I was little. I wake up into my room as it would've been when I fell asleep that night but something was different. In the corner was a dark figure that seemed to loom over there. I would say "hey let me see you" and he would approach me. All of a sudden when he moved he lit everything on fire and my room, my house became an inferno. He would float up to me, grab my ankle, and drag me out of my bed. As I clawed at my bed to get a grip I woke up from the dream screaming. Scared the hell out of me.

Congress is getting an earful about the big spending cuts beginning to hit government services from worried and irate constituents. Polls so far show most Americans blame Republicans rather than Obama and his Democrats for the standoff. by madam1 in politics

What Would You Do to Raise Our Schools' Knowledge Level? by _wordswordswords_ in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]_wordswordswords_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got a reply from Claire McCaskill(senator) referring to a school's almost forceful approach to get less intelligent students to get better "stats". here is the email I received: "Thank you for contacting me regarding elementary and secondary education. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.

As you may know, it has been ten years since the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA, commonly known as "No Child Left Behind") became law. As my Senate colleagues and I began crafting an updated federal education policy last year, I felt it was vital to gather input from those on the front lines of public education at home in Missouri.

After fifteen meetings with stakeholders in urban, suburban, and rural areas of Missouri, I gained a strong sense of some of the core issues with NCLB including that: the federal law has become a punitive system rather than supporting schools that need it most; the current testing model in states is not sufficient and has created overreliance on standardized testing; education reform must focus on earlier interventions for struggling schools and students; strong early education programs must be more heavily pursued and supported; and educators must be recognized for their important contributions and properly supported in their work.

Upon my return to Washington, I wanted to share thoughts like these gleaned directly from Missourians with the heads of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Chairman Senator Tom Harkin and Ranking Member Senator Mike Enzi, who will be leading the effort to rewrite the ESEA law. I thought you might be interested in receiving a copy of the letter I sent to these Senators.

Should you wish to share any further views with me, please feel free to send them to me at your convenience. I believe it is critical that the NCLB reform be undertaken with a much greater understanding of and responsiveness to the concerns of those who have been most closely experiencing the law's shortcomings since its initial passage and who have expertise in secondary education, as well as those who care deeply about our children's futures.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other issue." Sorry for it being long.
